Ch 32 : So handsome!

“Captain Xie.” Lin Ye greeted Xie Lin with a smile, looking more relaxed than ever before.

In contrast, Xie Lin’s expression was much heavier.

“Have you really made up your mind?” Xie Lin asked.

The moment Lin Ye heard that, he knew Xie Lin had already guessed what he was planning to do.

He nodded and said, “Ever since I entered the police academy, I’ve actually wanted to take that path. Back then, my family held me back from being ruthless enough. Now I’ve got no attachments—it’s the perfect time, isn’t it?”

From Lin Ye’s tone, Xie Lin could hear genuine joy—it was clear he truly wanted to do this.

So he didn’t try to persuade him otherwise, only said, “If you ever need anything, you can always come to me.”

Lin Ye nodded, giving Xie Lin a deep look. “Captain Xie, take care!”

The two didn’t say anything more.

Lin Ye headed to the dormitory to pack his things, while Xie Lin went to find Ruan Xingyao to take her home.

Ruan Xingyao was sitting in a chair, with Baiyi lying at her feet.

The girl and the dog were both sound asleep.

Xie Lin couldn’t help but pull the corners of his lips into a helpless smile.

This little girl sure had a big heart—after throwing such a big fit at Wei Chuan earlier, she could just turn around and fall asleep.

He walked over on light steps, his tall figure casting a shadow over her head.

Ruan Xingyao seemed to find the shade comfortable, letting out a soft murmur before continuing to sleep, her cheeks puffed out.

Xie Lin stared at her for a good half a minute before reaching out and tapping lightly on the table where she was resting her head.

Ruan Xingyao was startled awake.

Blinking her drowsy eyes, she looked up at Xie Lin standing under the light.

Even though she’d seen him often these past two days, Ruan Xingyao was still taken aback by his face.

“So handsome…” she unconsciously murmured.

Though her voice wasn’t loud, it sounded rather conspicuous in the quiet police station.

Aside from Xie Lin, the other colleagues still working overtime at the police station also heard it, and all turned to look at Ruan Xingyao.

Xie Lin hadn’t expected Ruan Xingyao to say something like that either, and a barely noticeable tenderness flickered in his eyes.

He didn’t say much, only spoke softly, “Come on, I’ll take you home first.”

Ruan Xingyao nodded, bent down to pick up Baiyi, and planted a kiss on its big head. “Let’s go, Baiyi, we’re going home!”

The two humans and one dog got into the car.

While fastening his seatbelt, Xie Lin said to Ruan Xingyao, “Expert Ruan, Wei Chuan has a rather impulsive personality, but he’s not a bad person. Don’t take what he said to heart.”

Ruan Xingyao tilted her head to look at him. “He’s a grown man, and you still have to clean up his mess for him?”

Her principle had always been simple — whoever made the mistake should bear the responsibility.

The fact that Xie Lin was speaking up for Wei Chuan didn’t exactly put her in a good mood.

Xie Lin said, “That’s not what I mean. I just hope you can give him a little more time. Once you spend more time with him, you’ll know what kind of person he really is.”

Ruan Xingyao gave a dismissive “Tch.” “Captain Xie, don’t be such a double standard. Why don’t you let him spend more time with me so he can understand what kind of person I am?”

And he said he wasn’t speaking up for Wei Chuan — fooling gullible little girls, huh?

Xie Lin could only smile helplessly; this little girl clearly had her own set of principles.

Tightening his grip on the steering wheel, he said, “The reason Wei Chuan cares so much about Lin Ye is because when he first joined the police force, Lin Ye saved his life.”

So Lin Ye suddenly leaving the police force really wasn’t a small matter for Wei Chuan.

Ruan Xingyao gave an “Oh,” and after a few seconds of silence, she said, “Lin Ye isn’t leaving the police force — he’s going undercover, isn’t he?”

Xie Lin immediately turned to look at Ruan Xingyao.

“So sharp!”

Ruan Xingyao lifted her chin proudly and said, “It’s related to that case with Zhao Wanying, right? It’s not hard to guess.”

Everything had simply happened too coincidentally, making the connection far too easy to draw.

Xie Lin stayed silent, his perception of this girl deepening once again.

After a long pause, Xie Lin finally asked, “Then, Expert Ruan, may I ask if there’s anything you can do to help him?”

Ruan Xingyao looked at Xie Lin, seeing the heaviness in his mood from the cold elegance of his profile.

A colleague suddenly having to go undercover—such a life-and-death matter—if one had no reaction at all, that would truly be a cold heart.

Although Ruan Xingyao’s first encounters with Lin Ye hadn’t been pleasant, after seeing his affection for Cola, she had a good impression of him.

So, since Xie Lin had asked her this question now, Ruan Xingyao genuinely wanted to help Lin Ye.

After thinking for quite a while, Ruan Xingyao asked, “When is he leaving?”

Xie Lin: “I’ll have to ask about that.”

As he spoke, Xie Lin pulled the car over to the side of the road and took out his phone to call Shen Jiming.

Shen Jiming answered quickly and asked, “Xiao Xie, what is it?”

He had been so busy these days that every time he got a call from the bureau, his first instinct was to reject it.

Xie Lin relayed Ruan Xingyao’s question to Shen Jiming.

Shen Jiming stayed silent for over ten seconds before answering, “At the latest, within five days. Why? What do you want to do?”

Xie Lin looked over at Ruan Xingyao, silently asking, “Is that enough?”

Ruan Xingyao’s expression turned slightly conflicted.

If this were in the Beast-Taming Sect, five days would absolutely be enough.

But in this world, with the spiritual energy in her body so thin, she wasn’t sure if she could manage to train a small animal.

After thinking for a moment, Xie Lin said to Shen Jiming, “Director Shen, please try to arrange for Lin Ye to leave after five days.”

Although Shen Jiming didn’t know what Xie Lin was planning, he still agreed.

Once the call ended, Xie Lin looked at Ruan Xingyao and asked, “What were you planning to do?”

Ruan Xingyao didn’t hide anything. “I want to train a small black snake. Normally, it can serve as a decoration or a little pet for him, but in a critical moment, it could save his life.”

Xie Lin’s lips parted slightly, staring at Ruan Xingyao in surprise.

“Don’t look so shocked!” Ruan Xingyao saw that his jaw was practically dropping and couldn’t help reaching out to poke it.

“It’s just like training police dogs. All living things have intelligence—you can think of it as a police snake,” Ruan Xingyao said.

For a moment, Xie Lin didn’t know whether to be more surprised that you could actually train a police snake, or that Ruan Xingyao had the nerve to directly touch him.

Ruan Xingyao had already turned her head away. “But for now, the top priority is to find a smart and nimble little black snake.”

In the Beast-Taming Sect, she could summon countless ones with just a call, all eager to compete for her favor and receive her blessing.

But in this world, in a city, finding a satisfactory little black snake was not going to be so easy.

Xie Lin asked, “What about the zoo?”

Ruan Xingyao shook her head. “The little black snakes in the zoo have been tamed into a life of comfort and docility—it’s much harder to train them.”

Xie Lin asked, “Then should we go up the mountain to catch one?”

Ruan Xingyao chuckled and tilted her head at Xie Lin. “Captain Xie, are you really that free?”
