Bai Qiu dashed out of the safe zone, sprinting toward the telecom building at top speed — a five-kilometer distance that would take him barely over a minute to cross!
As he ran with full force, every step from his iron boots scraped the ground and burst into sparks — the very definition of “fire and lightning.”
However, such speed came at a heavy price.
Even with his powerful physique, Bai Qiu could only maintain it for about two minutes before exhausting all his stamina, and it would leave real damage on his body afterward.
With the surge in monster numbers and new types appearing, most survivors no longer dared to venture far from the safe zones.
They only farmed monsters within a fifty-meter radius, moving in fan-shaped formations — clear out one spot, then rotate to another unoccupied area.
If a fight started to look bad, they’d fall back; if it was hopeless, they’d turn tail and run immediately.
Just as some teams were grinding monsters near the border, they saw a silver-armored figure burst out of the safe zone, sprinting away at an inhuman speed.
“Holy crap… what skill is that guy using? He’s leaving a trail of sparks!”
Bai Qiu’s blazing run made him look like a walking light source — even from several hundred meters away, people could still see him streaking through the dark.
…
“Huff…” Zhang Shiyao exhaled sharply, loosing arrow after arrow.
Each breath came with a shot, and each shot felled another monster.
But no matter how many she killed, the tide kept coming — endless waves of Dragonfang Soldiers and Dragonfang Crawlers closing in from every direction.
Now, at the foot of the building, a dense swarm of Dragonfang Axe Skeletons had gathered, all raising their skulls to stare at her with the eerie green soul-flames flickering in their eye sockets.
The Dragonfang Mage Skeletons hurled ghostly fireballs at her from afar.
The distance was too great — most attacks fizzled out mid-air or struck the building’s middle floors, shattering glass and spilling black smoke.
If any of those floors had contained flammable workshops, the whole building would’ve become an inferno by now.
Dragonfang Archer Skeletons held their bows taut, waiting for her to peek over the edge so they could let their arrows fly — forcing Zhang Shiyao to stay in the rooftop’s center, where she could only reactively shoot down any Dragonfang Crawlers that made it up.
Luckily, the Mage Skeletons’ bombardment had shattered most of the windows, limiting how many Crawlers could climb up — giving Zhang Shiyao a few precious moments to breathe.
Whoosh!
The shrill roar of an arrow like thunder split the air.
Every monster below turned their heads toward the sound.
Even Zhang Shiyao, busy finishing off nearby Crawlers and Dragonfang Soldiers, paused and looked in that direction — eyes widening.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
Each fully-drawn shot carried enough power to shatter entire ranks of monsters.
The arrows tore through the horde like divine bolts, each volley wiping out dozens — he didn’t even need to aim.
Even Bai Qiu felt his heart pound — the sheer number of monsters was staggering.
Row after row filled the streets, easily numbering in the hundreds.
Even his Darksteel arrows could only pierce through about 70% of the enemies in a line, and after two or three reuse cycles, they’d be completely destroyed.
His supply of arrows was dwindling fast — at this firing rate, they’d all be broken within five minutes!
It was the first time he truly felt that he didn’t have enough arrows, and that realization hit hard.
“That’s definitely brother… so strong!” Zhang Shiyao gasped.
Normally, when monsters died, their bodies would dissolve into faint white motes, enough to give off a soft glow in the dark.
But Bai Qiu’s arrows? Each shot lit up the battlefield like a flash grenade — the entire street was bright as day!
The first arrow hadn’t even finished its deadly sweep before the next one was already screaming through the air.
Bai Qiu stood his ground, reaping lives like a death god.
The Dragonfang Mages, Archers, and Axe Skeletons bombarded him from all sides — yet he neither dodged nor retreated.
He faced every attack head-on, his strikes never faltering.
Ding! Level up!
“Wow!” Zhang Shiyao gasped from the rooftop.
Moments earlier, she’d been worried when she saw the barrage raining down on Bai Qiu — but when every attack struck his Dragonslayer Armor without leaving even a scratch, she finally relaxed completely.
She also saw Bai Qiu get struck by a Dragonfang Axe Skeleton that leaped high into the air and smashed its axe down on him—yet right after taking the hit, Bai Qiu countered with a backhand punch, shattering the skeleton’s skull before continuing to shoot down the monsters around him.
A few minutes later, the once-dense tide of Dragonfang monsters had thinned out significantly.
Bai Qiu finally stopped attacking—not because he was tired, but because he had completely run out of arrows!
He put away his Darksteel longbow, now once again damaged from overuse, and drew his Darksteel heavy spear before charging toward the Telecom Building.
The D-grade Dragon Slayer Set armor shielded every part of his body without a single weak point—ordinary monsters couldn’t even scratch him.
One of the Axe skeletons tried a fully charged leap attack, but its axe shattered on impact, leaving Bai Qiu feeling only a slight vibration.
That was the power of equipment with special defense against Dragonfang-type monsters—anything below elite rank wasn’t even worth dodging.
Gripping the heavy spear, Bai Qiu swept it from left to right, smashing through monsters as he moved.
He released the weapon mid-swing, caught it again with his right hand, and continued his assault, alternating strikes from both sides.
His sheer strength bulldozed through the horde until he reached the base of the Telecom Building.
After putting away the heavy spear, Bai Qiu leapt several stories in a few quick jumps, crushing a few Dragonfang Crawlers underfoot as he ascended, until he reached the rooftop.
When the two met, Zhang Shiyao ran straight into his arms.
There was a loud thud as she hit his armor and recoiled, clutching her forehead in pain, grimacing through her teeth.
Bai Qiu crouched down and said, “You’ve gotten pretty bold, huh? Running out here alone in the middle of the night to grind monsters?”
“S-sorry… I won’t do it again,” she said softly, looking down and fidgeting with the mithril shortbow in her hands like a scolded child.
Bai Qiu hadn’t planned on scolding her too harshly anyway.
He just patted her head, then pulled out two potions. “Drink these. I’ll get us out of here in a bit.”
She obediently took them, pulled out the corks, and downed both bottles in one go.
“Um… brother? Aren’t we going to finish off the rest of the monsters?” Zhang Shiyao asked, glancing at Bai Qiu.
His earlier display had been so overwhelming that she felt they might as well stay and keep farming—there didn’t seem to be any danger at all.
Bai Qiu crouched down again and flicked her forehead with a sharp snap.
She winced, clutching her head as tears welled up in her eyes.
He scolded, “Didn’t you read the announcement? The Dragonfang Priest Skeletons and Dragonfang Cavalry Skeletons haven’t even shown up yet! Not to mention the system could randomly spawn high-level elites or even lord-tier monsters at any moment. You wanna stay here and die?”
“You must’ve triggered the King of the Monster Grinding achievement to have drawn this many enemies, right? That means we’re basically two giant monster magnets right now—every creature within ten miles will come swarming toward us. We need to get out while—”
Before he could finish, the ground below them twisted and warped.
A figure in a black robe appeared, holding a staff and chanting what seemed to be some kind of ritual…
It looked like a reskinned version of a Dragonfang Mage Skeleton—but when Bai Qiu glanced at its description, a chill ran down his spine.
