Ruan Xingyao nodded and said:
“But first, you need to calm yourself down.”
Because what she was about to say might hit even harder.
Liu Jiao had already realized something.
She took a deep breath and said:
“I can handle it. I can.”
Ruan Xingyao said:
“Your husband and mother-in-law usually treat you fairly well, making you believe that, even though you gave birth to a daughter, they genuinely adored her.”
Liu Jiao nodded:
“Yes, from what I saw, they spoiled Xiao Yue endlessly. Sometimes I even worried she’d be spoiled rotten.”
Ruan Xingyao said:
“All of that was just an illusion. Whenever you went out to work, your mother-in-law and husband would either beat or scold Xiao Yue, and even threatened her not to tell you. Your dog protected Xiao Yue, but it too was beaten many times.”
Hearing this, Liu Jiao looked down at the child in her arms.
Tears rolled down her cheeks again in big drops.
She said:
“I did suspect before, but they told me it was the nannies who were mistreating Xiao Yue. Because of that, I fired four or five of them in a row. To this day, I still haven’t found a suitable nanny.”
Ruan Xingyao said:
“What actually happened was this: your mother-in-law was scolding Xiao Yue, and when Xiao Yue talked back, your husband got angry. He took the chance to slap her across the face.”
She paused before continuing:
“That slap caused her ear to bleed. In order to keep you from finding out, they framed it as if your dog had knocked into her.”
Even though Liu Jiao had already suspected the truth, hearing Ruan Xingyao say it outright still left her in unbearable pain.
She let out a hoarse wail, crying as she repeated over and over:
“Beasts! They’re all beasts!”
Ruan Xingyao said:
“That’s the truth. What you choose to do next is up to you.”
Liu Jiao forced back her tears, steadied her breathing, and once again knelt before Ruan Xingyao.
Holding Xiao Yue tightly, she kowtowed heavily to Ruan Xingyao and said:
“Thank you, Streamer Starry. I will seek justice for my daughter and my dog.”
Even though her heart was being torn apart, even though she felt such pain that her very soul was numb, and even though she wished she could die to escape it all—
She would stand strong.
She had to personally seek justice for her daughter and her dog!
In Liu Jiao’s eyes, Ruan Xingyao saw a blazing fire.
She looked toward the livestream, waved at the camera, and said:
“Alright, that’s it for today’s stream. Good night, everyone! See you next time!”
With that, she directly ended the stream.
She reached out to help Liu Jiao up, then leaned in and whispered in her ear:
“If you want revenge, be careful of your sister.”
Liu Jiao’s whole body stiffened.
She opened her mouth, wanting to protest.
But when she met the firm gaze in Ruan Xingyao’s eyes, she hesitated.
After everything that had happened, she could no longer trust anyone—not even the sister she had trusted most in recent days.
Ruan Xingyao typed a few words on her phone, held it out for Liu Jiao to see.
“Your dog was beaten to death by her.”
Liu Jiao’s face instantly went pale.
Her eyes, almost against her will, turned toward her sister.
Just then, Ruan Xingyao discreetly blocked her line of sight.
In that instant, Liu Jiao understood Ruan Xingyao’s intent.
She gratefully gave her a small smile and said, “Thank you, Streamer Starry.”
Ruan Xingyao nodded, raising her hand to gently pat Liu Jiao’s shoulder.
She said, “Then I’ll get going now, okay? Stay strong!”
With that, Ruan Xingyao turned and headed toward You Huan and the others.
After just a couple of steps, she suddenly stopped, turned back to look at Liu Jiao, and asked:
“But I have a question—how did you manage to find me so precisely?”
Liu Jiao replied, “I saw online that you were in Changcheng, so I had someone track your movements. When I learned you were at the police station, I followed all the way from there.”
At those words, Ruan Xingyao frowned.
She gave Liu Jiao a deep look, but didn’t say anything more, simply turning to walk toward You Huan.
The onlookers around them surged forward as if to surround Ruan Xingyao, but all retreated instantly under the intimidating gazes of Ruan Xingzhuo and Chen Yu.
Ruan Xingyao walked up and hooked her arm through You Huan’s, saying, “Come on, let’s go eat.”
After everything tonight, she really was starving.
The four of them wove through the crowd and entered a restaurant.
It was a stir-fry place, known for Changcheng’s local specialties.
While Ruan Xingyao had been livestreaming, You Huan had already called ahead to reserve a private room.
Once inside, Ruan Xingyao pushed away Ruan Xingzhuo, who was about to sit beside her.
She raised a hand, pointed at Chen Yu, then pointed at the chair and said, “You—come here. Sit here!”
Chen Yu looked at her in surprise, but after a few seconds, obediently walked over and sat down beside her.
Ruan Xingzhuo and You Huan exchanged a glance, then each took their seats as well.
The atmosphere in the room instantly grew rather strange.
Unconsciously, You Huan quietly shifted her chair a little closer toward Ruan Xingzhuo.
Under the table, she tugged lightly at Ruan Xingzhuo’s pants and whispered, “Ruan Xingzhuo, what’s going on here?”
Ruan Xingzhuo lowered his head to look at You Huan’s hand—but didn’t brush it away.
He only lifted his gaze back to Ruan Xingyao and Chen Yu, his expression full of worry.
Ruan Xingyao tilted her head toward Chen Yu and said, “Chen Yu, aren’t you going to explain this to me?”
Chen Yu remained silent and didn’t open his mouth.
With a loud smack, Ruan Xingyao slapped the table and shot to her feet.
She glared furiously at Chen Yu.
“Don’t tell me that as a police officer who’s gone through professional training, you couldn’t even realize you were being followed!”
“What?!” Ruan Xingzhuo shot up from his chair with such force that You Huan’s hand, which hadn’t yet been withdrawn, was jolted against the table, making her wince and suck in a sharp breath of pain.
But Ruan Xingzhuo didn’t spare her a glance—his eyes were locked fiercely on Chen Yu, like a young leopard ready to pounce at any moment.
Ruan Xingyao’s gaze bore into Chen Yu, her hand on the table clenched tightly into a fist, as though the next second she might smash it straight into his face.
Chen Yu stood up and said to her, “I’m sorry, Xingxing. I did notice the car tailing us.”
Ruan Xingyao let out a cold laugh. “So you admit it—you did it on purpose!”
Chen Yu said, “I’m sorry, I was just following orders.”
That was the last straw.
Ruan Xingyao finally couldn’t hold back and swung a punch straight into Chen Yu’s face.
Even though he could have blocked it, Chen Yu took the blow head-on.
Ruan Xingyao had thrown her entire strength into that punch—his head snapped to the side, and beads of blood seeped from the corner of his mouth.
