The speaker was dressed in a white lab coat, wearing a mask, and holding a scalpel in his hand—the very scalpel he had just used to reopen Hai Yun’s surgical incision.
He thought it was one of their own people who had entered, so he turned his head impatiently and barked out a shout.
But when he clearly saw what stood before him, his pupils widened in shock.
“Who are you?” the man asked, his voice trembling.
At first, when he realized it was only two young girls and one boy who had walked in, his instinctive reaction was to tighten his grip on the scalpel and finish them off right there.
However, the very instant that thought crossed his mind, countless insects swarmed in, blotting out his vision in a dense, writhing mass.
Along with them came cats, dogs, and mice—too many to count.
The man’s entire body went numb.
Instinctively, he took a step back and pressed the button by the hospital bed.
In an instant, alarms blared throughout the hospital.
Within only a few dozen seconds, chaotic footsteps thundered from all directions.
From the sheer sound of them, it was clear just how many people were coming.
The man glared at Ruan Xingyao and the others, his face twisted with malice. “Since you’ve come to die, I’ll gladly oblige!”
Yet, instead of terror, he saw no trace of fear on their faces.
What he heard instead was a crisp, confident voice:
“Other than the two lying on the bed, bite, tear, smash—whatever you like. Just don’t kill them.”
The man stared at Ruan Xingyao like she was insane.
If he hadn’t misunderstood… was she giving orders to these animals?
“Madwoman! Where the hell did you come from, you lunatic?!” he screamed.
But in the next second, his leg was clamped down on by a dog’s jaws, while his exposed skin was stung relentlessly by a swarm of bees.
Even through his clothing, the stings landed hard and fast.
The man howled in agony.
The reinforcements who had rushed into the outer morgue barely had time to process what was happening before they were besieged by the animals Ruan Xingyao had stationed outside.
They were swarmed in such overwhelming numbers that they never even saw clearly what was attacking them.
All they felt was pain erupting across their bodies.
Especially their eyes—once stung by the bees, the pain was so intense they couldn’t even open them.
Within moments, those men were already on the ground, rolling and writhing, screaming in torment.
And yet, despite the chaos, neither Hai Yun nor Xiaoyun had regained consciousness.
Ruan Xingyao walked over and placed her hand under their noses.
Feeling their breaths still there, she finally let out a sigh of relief.
She turned to Ruan Xingzhuo. “Tell Xie Lin to send people to take these two away.”
Just as she spoke, a voice came from outside. “We’re already here.”
It was Xie Lin.
He entered with several police officers clad in protective suits.
But even in their gear, the sheer number of insects was too much; they, too, were stung again and again.
Still, compared to the men writhing on the floor, they endured far better.
Though they had been stung just as severely, only a few of them cried out.
Ruan Xingyao pursed her lips, clearly dissatisfied.
She fixed her gaze on Xie Lin, wishing nothing more than to unleash her animal army on him and have them bite him to shreds.
But unfortunately for her, this man was far too good at enduring pain.
Frustrated, she could only fume in silence—for she would never let her creatures harm the innocent.
She gave a command to the small animals, and they immediately obediently crowded against the four walls of the room, leaving the center empty.
Ruan Xingyao pointed at the two people on the operating table. “Take them out first. I need to go find the baby.”
Xie Lin raised his hand, signaling for them to be taken away.
Together with the people lying on the floor, everyone was carried out.
Just as Ruan Xingyao was about to lead her animal army away, she heard Xie Lin say: “We’ve already rescued the child. The other victims have also been saved. These two here are the last ones.”
At those words, Ruan Xingyao froze and frowned at him. “You did this on purpose!”
Xie Lin replied, “You were determined to save them, so of course we cooperated. But ultimately, this is our responsibility. We can’t let it all fall on your shoulders.”
So, before Ruan Xingyao made her move, Xie Lin had only carried out deployments based on the information she provided.
Once she began her operation, they simultaneously launched theirs, sweeping the entire hospital clean of its hidden crimes.
Ruan Xingyao thought it over—he was right.
If she had really tried to go one by one with her animal army, there would almost certainly have been criminals who managed to escape.
“Fine. Then you handle the aftermath. We’ll head out first,” Ruan Xingyao said.
She commanded the animals to leave and, at the same time, released her spiritual power, nourishing their bodies so they could live much longer than their natural lifespans.
Even the ones that had already been sick or injured were healed.
The dense, surging wave of animals gradually flowed out of the hospital.
It took quite a while before over ninety percent of them had gone.
Ruan Xingyao, Ruan Xingzhuo, and You Huan walked out of the hospital.
Before they reached the car, Ruan Xingyao sighed helplessly and stopped.
She crouched down and gently stroked the sticky little animals blocking her path one by one.
“I can’t take you home with me. Following me won’t do you any good. But if you’re lucky, you’ll find good owners,” Ruan Xingyao said.
Especially the few cats and dogs—she had already changed their destinies.
The rest of their lives would surely be filled with happiness.
Even so, a few little ones still clung stubbornly to her.
【Human! I just like you! I want to stay with you! I must stay with you!】
【Human! You smell so nice! I want to stay by your side too!】
【Human! Are you worried I’ll eat too much? I can eat less, I promise!】
Ruan Xingyao raised her hand, gesturing for them to stop their chatter.
She hardened her expression, her aura shifting instantly, and the little creatures fell quiet and obedient.
“Alright, go back to where you belong. Otherwise, I’ll have to give you a little punishment!” she warned.
Hearing that, the little animals still wanted to act cute and cling to her, but in the end, they obediently left.
Ruan Xingyao let out a helpless smile, stood up, and said to Ruan Xingzhuo and You Huan: “Alright, it’s been a long night. Let’s go home.”
She stretched lazily—truly exhausted now.
You Huan nodded. “Then I’ll order some food on the way, so it’ll be ready when we get home.”
Ruan Xingzhuo glanced at her, opened his mouth as if to ask: Was she really planning on going home with them, too?
The words reached his lips, but in the end, he didn’t ask.
The three of them got into the car.
Ruan Xingyao suddenly remembered that she was still livestreaming, so she took her phone out of her pocket—only to realize that, at some point, her phone had already run out of battery and shut off.
