Ch 34 : The Key to Burst Evolution

“BanchoLeomon?”

Sleipmon felt BanchoLeomon was far from a suitable choice for a diplomatic aide. Security position, maybe, but not diplomacy.

“Are you sure it’s BanchoLeomon?”

Sora nodded firmly. “Sure, absolutely, and positively.”

Seeing her so insistent, Sleipmon could only say, “I can take you to see BanchoLeomon, but the rest is up to you. Climb on.”

It extended a hand to Sora, Vademon, and the other Digimon.

Once everyone was aboard, Sleipmon soared into the sky—fast as a gale.

“So fast!”

“Are you the fastest Digimon?”

The Digimon exclaimed in awe.

“No, I can’t claim that title,” Sleipmon chuckled. It was indeed fast, but among the Royal Knights, some of its colleagues were even faster.

As they chatted, they arrived at their destination.

Three figures stood tall in the distance. The largest among them was BanchoLeomon—the one Sora came to find.

Silver hair, blue beast eyes, a green sprout between his lips, golden fur across his body, a bold red X-shaped scar across his chest and abdomen, and a holy ring on his long tail.

He wore a black long coat like a high school delinquent uniform, with the words “On Heaven and Earth, I Alone Reign Supreme” stitched on the right sleeve.

He looked exactly like a delinquent punk—or rather, a punk lion-man.

The term “Bancho” referred to the leader of delinquents, and he was practically a lion version of Jotaro Kujo!

However…

Sora, who had come looking for BanchoLeomon, wasn’t focused on him—but rather on the two people standing next to him. One was a man, and the other… also a man.

One was… Captain Sampson, and the other was…

Spencer Damon!

‘Aren’t Spencer Damon and BanchoLeomon supposed to share one body? How are they separated? Could it be Yggdrasill…’

Sora pondered for a while before realizing something she had overlooked.

In the original timeline, ten years ago, Spencer Damon entered the Digital World as a member of the Digital World Exploration Team.

Back then, Kurata, also a team member, misunderstood Digimon’s behavior and opened fire on them, sowing deep enmity and causing the team to be attacked.

Spencer, who had mastered Digisoul, covered the team’s retreat to the human world, choosing to remain and wander the Digital World alone. He and BanchoLeomon, after fighting one another, became partners.

They wandered the Digital World together, seeking a way for both worlds to coexist in peace.

Years later, they finally found Yggdrasill and demonstrated the limitless potential of humans and Digimon through Burst Mode.

Yggdrasill, convinced, believed in a future where humans and Digimon could create harmony.

But just as things were stabilizing—disaster struck.

Kurata, with an army of Gizmon, invaded the Digital World and launched a massacre.

Normally, Digimon leave behind Digi-Eggs when they die, ensuring their world’s population remains stable. But Digimon slain by Kurata’s Gizmon left nothing behind—they were erased, unable to reincarnate.

This enraged Yggdrasill, who then prepared to launch a retaliatory attack on the human world.

Spencer stopped Yggdrasill, pledging on his life that such atrocities wouldn’t happen again.

But the attacks continued—even the Mega-level Mercurymon was slain by Kurata.

At that point, Spencer had to pay with his life to honor his promise.

To protect his partner, BanchoLeomon pretended to carry out the execution. While in truth, he allowed Spencer to transfer his soul into his own body, allowing them to live as one.

Yggdrasill discovered BanchoLeomon’s deception and possessed Spencer’s original body as a hostage, monitoring BanchoLeomon’s every move…

‘The turning point was Mercurymon… My interference must have stopped things from escalating to that level, so Spencer and BanchoLeomon never fused.’

Sora smiled—she hadn’t even realized the extent of her impact.

While she was reflecting, Sleipmon gently placed the Digimon on the ground and reverted to Kudamon, leaping onto Captain Sampson’s shoulder.

Spencer smiled. “Now that Kudamon’s back, I’ll be heading off.”

Captain Sampson turned sharply. “You’re not coming back to the human world with us? Your wife and children have been waiting ten years!”

The mention of his family brought guilt to Spencer’s face.

‘Ten years…’

It was supposed to be a short expedition, but ten years had passed.

How many decades does one get in life?

He desperately wanted to reunite with his wife and children. He longed for it.

But now wasn’t the time.

After careful thought, Spencer’s eyes became resolute. “I have to deal with Kurata myself. Sampson, please tell Sarah, Spencer, and Chika… I’m sorry.”

Captain Sampson sighed. “This won’t be another ten years, will it?”

Spencer gave a confident smile. “No. This won’t take long.”

Just as Spencer and BanchoLeomon were about to set out to hunt Kurata, Sora stepped forward. “Mr. Damon, there’s something I’d like to ask. Could I speak with you in private?”

Spencer paused.

Kudamon was full of questions—weren’t they here to meet BanchoLeomon? Why go talk to Spencer?

It didn’t quite understand but could only silently marvel at Angewomon’s depth.

“Come with me,” Sora said, walking about 100 meters away.

Spencer followed.

“Miss Angewomon, what’s the matter?”

Spencer broke the silence, his curiosity piqued.

‘…Did we really need to come this far?’

Sora raised her right hand, fingers clenched into a fist. A white Digisoul ignited in a blazing flame.

“What?!” Spencer’s face lit with shock.

Digisoul was a manifestation of the human spirit—while it could be converted to energy for Digimon, Digimon themselves could NOT produce Digisoul.

Yet this Angewomon was emitting Digisoul. What was going on?

Sora said, “What I want to ask about is Burst Evolution.”

‘Burst Evolution?’

Spencer’s brow rose. ‘Why would a Digimon ask a human about evolution?’

Regardless, judging by that white Digisoul, this Angewomon was clearly different.

After thinking it through, Spencer said, “Before we talk—punch me. Use that fist wrapped in Digisoul.”

Sora laughed. “That’s a first. Are you sure?”

“Bring it on.” Spencer took a stance.

“Then I won’t hold back!”

Sora stepped forward with her left foot as a pivot, channeled strength through her waist, drew back her right fist like a drawn bow, and struck.

Thud!

A dull thump, followed by sharp clicking footsteps.

Spencer’s worn explorer boots of ten years wouldn’t make such crisp steps.

Only Sora’s high heels could.

She had been repelled—the force from the impact drove her several steps back.

Spencer, meanwhile, remained unmoved. A blaze of orange Digisoul surrounded him—solid and unshakable.

“What a powerful Digisoul!” Sora exclaimed.

Gazing at Spencer wreathed in Digisoul, she didn’t feel like she was facing a human but a Mega-level Digimon in human form.

“I think I understand,” Spencer said, smiling as the Digisoul faded.

‘Just one punch… and you understand what exactly?’
