Ch 136 : Wooing Ex-Wife

After closing the door again, Li Che’s expression changed instantly.

He turned a cold, sharp gaze on Xu Ping.

“Why were you provoking him? You know he only just recovered!”

Xu Ping pressed his lips together and remained silent.

He hadn’t expected Shen Nanyue to affect Zhou Yushen to this extent.

After Zhou Yushen’s mother passed away, he had suffered from a serious mental illness.

It had taken a very long period of treatment before he fully recovered.

Li Che had met Zhou Yushen later in life and only knew about that period through Xu Ping’s stories.

“Anyway,” Li Che said, “if you dare criticize Zhou Yushen again because of Gu Linlang, or if you hurt Shen Nanyue, I won’t let you off.”

Xu Ping gave him a calm glance.

“When was I doing it for Gu Linlang?”

He simply couldn’t stand by and watch Zhou Yushen break laws or cross moral boundaries for anyone.

“Keep an eye on him. If possible, have his former doctor examine him again.”

“Don’t worry about it. Go take care of your Gu Linlang.”

“You…”

Li Che snorted heavily and turned back into the house.

Helpless, Xu Ping shook his head and left.

Back in the living room, Li Che saw that Zhou Yushen had already returned to the sofa and was working on his laptop.

Seeing that Zhou Yushen’s demeanor had returned to normal, Li Che chose not to bring up what had just happened.

He sat back down, picked up his game controller, and resumed playing.

“You’re pretty free lately, aren’t you?”

Zhou Yushen suddenly spoke.

Li Che’s hands froze on the controller.

Forcing a smile, he looked over.

“Not really.”

Zhou Yushen placed his laptop on the coffee table and turned it toward him.

“You handle the rest.”

Without giving him any chance to object, he issued the order, grabbed his coat from the side, and stood up.

“Hey, where are you going?”

“To coax my ex-wife.”

Li Che: …

Zhou Yushen’s tall figure disappeared through the doorway.

Looking at the game character that had just died on the screen, Li Che couldn’t help letting out a deep sigh.

“I’m the one who has it hard.”

Resigned to his fate, he took over Zhou Yushen’s laptop and began handling the remaining work.

Zhou Yushen drove to the Shen Group headquarters.

He had no intention of going upstairs.

Instead, he parked outside, reclined the driver’s seat, and leaned back while gazing at the highly modernized office tower.

His deep eyes remained fixed on the building.

Lost in thought, his mind seemed to transcend time itself, returning to the days when he had shamelessly lingered around the Shen Group.

The more he reminisced, the more a faint smile appeared on his lips.

Without realizing it, his eyes closed, and he fell asleep.

He was awakened by the increasing sound of car horns outside.

The sky had already darkened.

Streetlights illuminated the roads with a warm yellow glow.

Office workers hurried in groups toward bus and subway stations.

Cars sped past just as hurriedly.

Instinctively, his gaze drifted toward the entrance of the Shen Group building.

The moment he looked, his expression instantly dropped several degrees colder.

At some point, Chen Mu had arrived.

Standing outside the Shen Group entrance, he held a bouquet of roses and waited expectantly.

Even from a distance, the anticipation on his face was obvious.

Passersby frequently glanced over, as though expecting to witness a grand confession of love.

Zhou Yushen got out of his car.

With his long strides, he headed straight toward the Shen Group building.

Shen Nanyue hadn’t come down yet.

Without sparing Chen Mu a glance, he walked right past him and entered the building.

Seeing this, anxiety flashed across Chen Mu’s face.

He immediately followed.

Zhou Yushen didn’t even stop to greet the receptionist.

He walked straight into the elevator.

Chen Mu, however, was stopped in the lobby.

“Sir, who are you here to see?”

“Shen Nanyue.”

“Do you have an appointment with President Shen?”

“…No.”

“Then please wait a moment while I notify President Shen. May I have your name?”

Chen Mu’s face darkened completely.

Unhappily, he pointed toward the elevator Zhou Yushen had taken.

“Why can he go in directly?”

The receptionist smiled professionally.

“Because he’s President Shen’s family member. Sir, may I have your name so I can inform President Shen?”

The receptionist was already growing annoyed.

The man holding the bouquet of roses was obviously another one of President Shen’s suitors.

There was no way she was going to let him upstairs so easily and risk ruining the relationship between President Shen and her husband!

Chen Mu’s face darkened.

His grip tightened around the bouquet, making the plastic wrapping crinkle loudly.

Meanwhile, Zhou Yushen made his way through the building without encountering any obstacles and entered Shen Nanyue’s office.

Seeing the figure suddenly appear at the doorway, Shen Nanyue frowned.

“Can’t you knock before coming in?”

He used to be quite polite.

Today, he had simply barged in.

“Then should I go back out and knock again?”

Zhou Yushen pointed toward the door, the playful look in his eyes making him seem like a shameless rogue.

Shen Nanyue shot him a glare and lowered her head to continue organizing her documents.

Smiling, Zhou Yushen closed the door.

As usual, he didn’t disturb her.

He walked straight to the sofa, sat down, and quietly waited.

Shen Nanyue glanced up at him.

He sat silently on the couch.

Unlike usual, he wasn’t holding his phone or dealing with work.

Instead, he sat there quietly, his head slightly lowered.

Shadows seemed to fall across his perfectly sculpted profile, making him look as though he were in a bad mood.

She resisted the urge to ask and returned to her work.

The office phone rang.

She picked it up.

“President Shen, Mr. Chen Mu is downstairs asking to see you.”

As if sensing something, Zhou Yushen looked up at Shen Nanyue.

Before she could answer, he silently held up three fingers.

“The third meal.”

Shen Nanyue’s parted lips froze.

Then she spoke into the phone.

“I’m very busy today. I won’t be seeing him.”

After hanging up, she set the phone down and looked at Zhou Yushen.

“You saw Chen Mu downstairs?”

Zhou Yushen neither confirmed nor denied it.

Shen Nanyue didn’t pursue the matter.

Picking up her bag, she said, “Let’s go.”

Once this meal was finished, there would only be three meals left to repay him.

After she settled the debt, she wouldn’t have to keep meeting Zhou Yushen anymore.

A faint smile appeared on Zhou Yushen’s lips as he stood and followed her out of the office.

“Is your car in the garage?”

Shen Nanyue nodded.

Zhou Yushen’s long arm reached past her and pressed the button for Basement Level 1.

“We’ll take your car.”

Chen Mu was probably still downstairs at the reception desk.

Zhou Yushen had no interest in seeing that punchable face again.

Shen Nanyue simply let him have his way.

During dinner, Zhou Yushen’s gaze repeatedly drifted toward Shen Nanyue’s face.

At first, she pretended not to notice.

But the longer it continued, the more uncomfortable she became.

Finally, she looked up and glared at him.

“Why are you staring at me?”

“Because you’re beautiful.”

The answer came out instinctively.

Spoken in Zhou Yushen’s clear, pleasant voice, the compliment somehow didn’t sound cheesy at all.

Shen Nanyue’s heart skipped a beat.

A faint blush crept across the tips of her ears.

She quickly suppressed the sudden flutter in her chest and met his gaze.

“Eat your food. When we’re done, I’m going home to rest.”

Zhou Yushen didn’t say anything else and lowered his eyes to continue eating.

To be honest, even he had been startled by his own automatic response.

Was that really something he would say?

Zhou Yushen was famously known as an untouchable iceberg beauty—everyone said he was far beyond anyone’s reach. But only Shen Nanyue knew the blazing passion and madness hidden beneath his cold and austere exterior.

At first, she thought he only lusted after her beauty, addicted to the desire and intoxication of the night. Yet when he willingly bowed before her, content to become utterly devoted to her, she finally understood—love had always been a kind of willing taming, one powerful enough to pull the cold moon hanging high in the heavens down into the mortal dust.
