“What’s wrong? Now that President Zhou is staying in my lounge, are you planning to manage my work as well?”
Even after being rebuffed, Zhou Yushen wasn’t angry.
“I’m not managing it. I just want to know what’s upsetting you.”
The sincerity in both his gaze and tone made it impossible for Shen Nanyue to vent the frustration bottled up inside her.
She cast him a cool glance and said flatly, “I’m not upset.”
Seeing that she didn’t want to talk about it, Zhou Yushen chose not to press further.
“Then can I still come here to rest?”
Shen Nanyue frowned.
Zhou Yushen immediately compromised.
“I’ll only come during the day, and only when you’re here.”
If you’re occupying my lounge, how am I supposed to rest?
Shen Nanyue rejected him without hesitation.
Zhou Yushen didn’t continue arguing.
He thought to himself that even if he came, she probably wouldn’t have the heart to throw him out.
After chatting with Shen Nanyue for a few more minutes—mostly one-sidedly—he left the office.
As the door closed once again, the faint scent of sandalwood he carried still lingered in the air.
Shen Nanyue lifted her head from the documents before her and leaned back in her chair, her thoughts gradually drifting.
Zhou Yushen had locked Gu Linlang in an abandoned building for two days?
No wonder when she had run into Gu Linlang at the hospital that day, not only had her condition worsened, but her hatred toward Shen Nanyue had grown stronger as well.
Wasn’t Zhou Yushen supposed to care deeply about Gu Linlang’s illness?
Shen Nanyue rubbed her forehead tiredly.
Why was it that whenever she was around Zhou Yushen, she could never control her emotions properly?
The crisis that nearly brought down Huansheng Group came suddenly.
Within just a few days, Meng Yan had taken control of the Meng Group and, seizing upon one of Huansheng Group’s financial crises, launched a fierce assault against it.
In only a matter of days, Huansheng Group was on the verge of declaring bankruptcy.
After finishing a phone call with Elder Master Zhou, Zhou Yushen turned to Li Che with a grim expression.
“Speed things up.”
Li Che sat nearby, fingers flying across the keyboard.
“I honestly didn’t expect them to move this fast.”
And their attack was aggressive, aimed directly at the Zhou Group.
“Did you tell your grandfather?” Li Che asked without stopping his work.
Zhou Yushen nodded.
“He won’t interfere.”
Only Elder Master Zhou’s promise gave Zhou Yushen some peace of mind.
This silent war had always been inevitable.
He was merely bringing it forward.
“I’m going to find Chen Mu. Contact me if there’s any news.”
Without looking up, Li Che replied, “Chen Mu’s life has been pretty much limited to three places lately—the Chen residence, the Shen family villa, and Shen Corporation. Try waiting for him at one of those.”
Zhou Yushen’s expression darkened.
Picking up his coat and draping it over his arm, he left the apartment.
A female voice came through Li Che’s headset.
“That’s clearly only two points, not three. I already chased Chen Mu away from the Shen family’s gate.”
Li Che chuckled.
“You don’t understand. Men need a little competition.”
Shen An’an snorted.
“You mean men are all cheap. No wonder you two are birds of a feather.”
“Can you not lump me together with him?”
Shen An’an replied immediately, “I’m telling you now, I haven’t accepted Zhou Yushen as my brother-in-law yet! Even if he manages to push Chen Mu aside, it won’t be that easy for him to pursue my sister.”
“Well, that’ll depend on his abilities.”
When Zhou Yushen arrived downstairs at Shen Corporation, he happened to see Shen Nanyue coming out of the building.
Chen Mu stepped forward to greet her.
After exchanging a few words, the two appeared ready to get into a car together.
Zhou Yushen’s eyes darkened.
He pushed open his car door and got out.
“Nanyue.”
Shen Nanyue turned around and met Zhou Yushen’s unreadable gaze.
Chen Mu’s expression changed slightly.
Watching Zhou Yushen approach, he instinctively stepped in front of Shen Nanyue, shielding her behind him.
“President Zhou, I invited Yueyue out first today. First come, first served. Ever heard of that?”
The corner of Shen Nanyue’s mouth twitched.
Why does this feel so melodramatic?
The top buttons of Zhou Yushen’s black shirt were undone, exposing his well-defined collarbone.
He wore perfectly tailored black dress pants, while a lightweight black trench coat draped over his arm, hanging down to his knees.
The black-and-gold watch on his wrist reflected the sunlight, flashing with a sharp gleam.
Just like the man himself.
Especially now, with the suppressed anger radiating from him.
“I’m not here to ask her out.”
His gaze settled on Chen Mu.
“The person I’m inviting today is you.”
Chen Mu was stunned.
Even Shen Nanyue poked her head out from behind him and looked at Zhou Yushen suspiciously.
Zhou Yushen extended a hand and pulled Shen Nanyue from behind Chen Mu to his side.
Chen Mu didn’t react quickly enough to stop him.
Then Zhou Yushen bent slightly toward Shen Nanyue, a smile curving his lips.
Yet the smile never reached his eyes.
“Miss Shen, would you be willing to yield this opportunity and allow me to have a meal with Mr. Chen today?”
“H—”
She opened her mouth to answer, but before a sound could emerge, the man’s strong fingers tightened around her wrist.
She immediately closed her mouth.
After carefully observing Zhou Yushen’s expression, she cautiously suggested, “How about we all go together?”
Zhou Yushen’s expression softened slightly.
“Since you’re so graciously inviting me, it would be rude to refuse. Let’s go.”
With that, he pulled Shen Nanyue directly into the back seat of Chen Mu’s car.
The two of them casually discussed dinner plans as though everything had already been settled.
Leaving Chen Mu standing outside the car alone like an idiot.
His face turned completely black.
The next second, he yanked open the driver’s door and climbed into the driver’s seat.
Chen Mu did not start the car immediately.
Instead, he asked in a low voice, “What do you want with me?”
He had no interest in having dinner with his romantic rival.
“We’ll talk while we eat.”
The temperature inside the car was a little low.
Zhou Yushen glanced at Shen Nanyue’s slender figure and handed his coat to her.
“Don’t catch a cold. Put this on.”
Shen Nanyue was wearing a sleeveless dress.
Having just gotten into the car, she rubbed her arms from the chill.
When Zhou Yushen offered his coat, she froze for a moment.
She wanted to refuse, but the cold air made her shiver involuntarily.
Zhou Yushen’s eyes darkened.
Without another word, he unfolded the coat and wrapped it completely around her.
Through the rearview mirror, Chen Mu witnessed the scene, and his face immediately turned green.
“Take your coat away! I’ll turn off the air conditioning!”
He pressed the button to shut off the AC.
Unfortunately, the button was broken.
He had discovered the problem a couple of days earlier, but his laziness had kept him from fixing it.
He had never imagined it would become a weapon used against him today.
Immediately, he took off his own jacket and handed it back.
“Yueyue, wear mine.”
Shen Nanyue cast him a casual glance, tightened the coat around herself, and said indifferently, “Let’s just go. Aren’t we supposed to be getting dinner?”
Chen Mu’s grip on the jacket tightened.
He stared at Shen Nanyue in dissatisfaction.
A trace of murderous resentment seemed to flicker in his dark eyes.
Zhou Yushen said coldly, “Drive.”
“The hell are you ordering me around for?!”
Chen Mu roared.
He threw his jacket onto the floor of the back seat and slammed his foot on the accelerator.
The car shot forward.
Shen Nanyue had been leaning casually against the seat.
The sudden surge sent her body tilting sideways.
She let out a startled cry and fell directly into Zhou Yushen’s arms.
Zhou Yushen’s expression immediately darkened.
One arm firmly steadied Shen Nanyue while he raised a leg and delivered a hard kick to the back of the driver’s seat.
“If you don’t know how to drive, hire a chauffeur!”
The powerful force from behind shook the seat.
Everything happening in the back seat was reflected clearly in Chen Mu’s eyes through the rearview mirror.
He was unwilling to accept it, but the fierce and intimidating aura radiating from the angry Zhou Yushen sent a chill rising from the depths of his heart.
