Ch 196 : Slaying the Kraken

A massive sphere of water erupted from A-Yuan’s mouth and quickly caught up to the fleeing Kraken, relentlessly driving it upward toward the ocean’s surface.

No matter how desperately it struggled, it was useless.

It had already exhausted every trick in its arsenal while fighting A-Yuan.

Under Huang Hailing’s stunned gaze, the Kraken was shoved high into the sky by the glowing water sphere.

Then, with a thunderous explosion, the sphere burst apart, scattering shimmering water that cascaded downward like a radiant curtain.

The curtain of water fell from several hundred meters in the air, and beneath the blazing sun, it formed a magnificent rainbow.

Had the scene been frozen in time, it would have looked like a masterpiece.

Of course, mixed into the falling water were countless chunks of the Kraken’s flesh and severed tentacles.

After its body exploded, the sea below was dyed a deep blue with its blood.

Yet Bai Qiu narrowed his eyes and muttered in surprise, “It actually didn’t die?”

Even Bai Qiu had to admit the terrifying power of A-Yuan’s Origin Water Curtain.

Among B-rank-minus elemental abilities, very few could rival its destructive force.

As for himself, the only techniques whose raw power surpassed that attack were Converging Mana Thrust and Converging Piercing Star.

Yet despite such overwhelming might, the Kraken had somehow survived.

All of its dozens of tentacles had been blown away, and half of its head was gone.

Only most of its mangled torso remained, drifting with the ocean currents.

Ordinarily, injuries of this magnitude should have been unquestionably fatal.

But Bai Qiu’s sharp senses detected that it still retained consciousness.

Despite having lost all of its tentacles and half of its head, it continued drawing in and expelling seawater through its beak-like mouth, using the jet propulsion to push its ruined body farther away.

Between the distance it had already created during the fight with A-Yuan and the extra distance gained after being blasted away by the Origin Water Curtain, it was now over two thousand meters from A-Yuan and nearly three thousand meters from Bai Qiu.

A-Yuan quickly realized that even the strongest attack had failed to finish off the opponent, and couldn’t help feeling both frustrated and wronged.

“Darn it! I still couldn’t kill it! Ugh… I’m out of strength!”

A-Yuan wanted to chase after it and finish the job, but after such a prolonged battle and unleashing Origin Water Curtain, A-Yuan had only managed to swim a few dozen meters before giving up.

A-Yuan scales rapidly opened and closed, resembling the heavy panting of someone who had just finished intense exercise.

A-Yuan poked it head above the waves and let out a pitiful cry toward Bai Qiu.

“Wuu… Wuu…” Then A-Yuan thoughts reached him.

“Master, help me kill it!”

Hearing A-Yuan’s plea, Bai Qiu readily agreed. This time, however, he did not use Dragon-Slaying Star Breath Spear.

“Whoo…”

He dismissed the Dragon-Slaying Star Breath Spear, took a deep breath, and drew out the Heaven-Earth Shattering Bow, along with a Crystal Silver Arrow.

“ROAR!!”

As Bai Qiu struggled to draw the bowstring, a resounding dragon’s roar echoed through the air.

The immense surge of magical power whipped up a violent gale.

“Whoosh! Whoosh!”

Sand and gravel were blown from the cliffside.

Huang Hailing, standing dozens of meters away, was so overwhelmed by the dragon’s roar that she froze in place, nearly being blown off the cliff by the raging wind.

Fortunately, as the gale swept past, she regained control of her body.

Bending low against the wind, she barely managed to keep her footing as she forced her eyes open, trying to see what terrifying weapon Bai Qiu had just taken out.

Summoning every ounce of his strength, Bai Qiu pulled the bowstring to its absolute limit.

Aiming at the Kraken, now more than 3,400 meters away, he released the arrow.

With a shrill whistle, the Crystal Silver Arrow transformed into a streak of white light, crossing the distance of more than three kilometers in the blink of an eye.

The arrow effortlessly pierced what remained of the Kraken’s relatively intact half of its head before erupting in a violent explosion.

Another wave nearly a hundred meters high surged into the air several kilometers away.

Compared to the eight-hundred-meter water curtain created by Origin Water Curtain, however, it was still far inferior.

The Kraken had already been hanging on by its last breath.

Had it been at full strength, Bai Qiu would have needed either a Radiant Star Silver Arrow or a Star Iron Armor-Piercing Arrow for a chance at killing it in a single shot.

But against a foe that was already on the verge of death, using a Crystal Silver Arrow was more than enough—and already gave the creature far more respect than it deserved.

“Haa…”

Huang Hailing brushed her windblown hair behind her ear and stared at Bai Qiu in utter shock.

The extraordinary aura radiating from the longbow in his hand left no room for doubt.

It was unquestionably the number one weapon on the Weapon Rankings.

The Heaven-Earth Shattering Bow!

It truly deserved its place as the number one weapon, and it lived up to its legendary reputation.

With a single shot, it instantly killed the Kraken that had miraculously survived.

Huang Hailing had already surpassed Level 30 and, having survived this long, nearly all of her attributes had reached C-rank.

Even so, she still felt that the gap between herself and Bai Qiu was as vast as an insurmountable chasm.

She recalled how, in the past, Bai Qiu had saved her from certain death with three arrows fired from six kilometers away.

She couldn’t even imagine how far the bow now in his hands could shoot.

If it were aimed at a human, how many people on Earth today could actually withstand it?

Deep within her heart, Huang Hailing felt both sincere reverence and awe toward Bai Qiu.

She feared him because the power he displayed was monstrously overwhelming, yet she respected him because, despite possessing such immense strength, he remained a man of noble character.

Indeed, after obtaining power far beyond that of ordinary people, even Huang Hailing herself couldn’t help becoming somewhat conceited.

After all, with her abundance of resources and having reached Level 30, she realized that her attitude toward the weak had changed considerably compared to when she had first started.

Yet Bai Qiu had gained power capable of effortlessly shattering everything she took pride in, and still he had never abandoned the justice in his heart.

Perhaps that was why, despite never deliberately seeking fame or glory, he continued to enjoy such tremendous prestige.

Bai Qiu put away the Heaven-Earth Shattering Bow and let out a heavy sigh of relief.

“That was the first time I’ve used this bow. Good thing I hit it.”

After all, every bow differed in weight and effective range, and those differences affected an arrow’s trajectory.

Even for a master archer like him, switching to an entirely new bow made it impossible to accurately predict where the arrow would land.

After a brief estimate, he concluded that with his current strength, he could barely draw this bow five times.

If his very first shot had missed, the massive waves it created might have swept the Kraken even farther away.

And if the distance had exceeded 3,800 meters, then no matter how great his power was, he would have been unable to kill it.

Because that distance marked the maximum range permitted within this secret realm—his attacks could not penetrate the system’s invisible barrier.

“Wuu”

A-Yuan let out several cheerful cries.

A-Yuan lowered it head, gulped down a mouthful of seawater, then stretched it serpentine neck above the ocean and sprayed water into the sky like a fountain.

The water blossomed overhead like fireworks, forming one beautiful flower after another before gently falling back down.

Bai Qiu couldn’t help feeling both speechless and amused.

A-Yuan had learned quite a few tricks.

The floral patterns it sprayed were all things it had seen before—dreamy blossoms, and the flower wreath that had been woven and given to it back in Zone 2218.

Huang Hailing was completely dumbfounded.

She had never expected that this azure giant serpent called A-Yuan, besides possessing such terrifying combat power, also knew so many performance-like tricks.

She secretly felt fortunate that she wasn’t a Rider-class Summoner.

Otherwise, her worldview would probably have been shattered even more.
