Sure enough, Suo Tian came back before dinner.
When he returned, he had a red invitation card in his hand.
I took it and had a look—well, well, it turned out to be a wedding invitation.
Honestly, that kind of thing had become quite rare.
Back in the day, whenever there were weddings or funerals among relatives, people would just call directly.
Since our parents weren’t around, and Yangyang and I were considered the younger generation, we didn’t really receive invitations.
Even when distant relatives occasionally sent one, it was usually just a symbolic, empty shell—those cheap ones you could buy ten for a few bucks, without even the bride and groom’s names written on them.
Most of the time, people would just inform you verbally or give you a call.
But the one Suo Tian brought back actually had the bride and groom’s names printed on it, and even included their wedding photo.
The whole invitation was soft pink, with a ribbon tied around it—meticulously made.
Han Xue took it and flipped through it a couple of times, smacking her lips in envy.
Xu Shu seemed irritated by her tone, snorted coldly, and went upstairs without another word.
The rest of us looked at each other awkwardly, but Han Xue didn’t care.
She turned to Suo Tian and asked, “Who’s this? At a time like this, they still have the mood to go all out and hold a wedding?”
Suo Tian glanced at her. “The captain of Team A, and the daughter of the head of a top-secret research group.”
“Well, that explains everything. A power alliance, huh?”
“Even the invitation is this detailed—the wedding itself must be even more romantic,” Taozi said dreamily as he took the invitation from Han Xue.
“Alright, that’s enough of that,” Lili laughed, snatching the invitation from Taozi’s chest.
“One day, we’ll hold a wedding for you and Zhou Wen here too.”
“Yeah right,” Taozi slumped onto the sofa.
“Forget everything else—just that ribbon on the invitation, can you even find anything like it around here?”
Ignoring him, Lili opened the invitation and took a look. “The 10th of this month? That’s only a few days away.”
Then she looked at Suo Tian. “Are you invited to attend?”
“Yeah,” Suo Tian nodded.
Hearing the date, I suddenly remembered— Dad had said he would come to take Xiao Hu for isolation around the middle of this month.
Uncle Gazi, sitting nearby, clearly thought of the same thing.
He sighed, glanced at me, then at Xiao Hu—who was busy picking Yiyi up and tossing him around—and finally turned away to busy himself in the kitchen.
After dinner, Shen Feng and Zhou Wen came downstairs together, their hair still wet from showers.
Usually, after eating, they would go upstairs, bathe, and sleep until the next day.
But today, perhaps because training had been lighter, they came down to chat with us.
When Shen Feng came down, Han Xue’s expression suddenly turned strange.
She stared at him for a moment, then stood up and said she was going to sleep before heading upstairs.
Shen Feng, who had just sat down, noticed and asked curiously, “You, a night owl, going to bed this early?”
Han Xue didn’t answer and quickly ran off.
Lili told Shen Feng and Zhou Wen about Xiao Hu’s situation.
After hearing it, they simply became two more worried people—neither could come up with a good solution.
Suo Tian sat quietly to the side, staring at the floor.
After thinking for a while, Shen Feng asked him, “Do you have any ideas?”
Suo Tian looked up at him, paused, then shook his head. “No.”
After a moment, Zhou Wen turned to me and asked, “What exactly did that person say about the child’s condition?”
“They said a bunch of things about the strange phenomena in his body—that the virus doesn’t spread inside him, and as his wounds heal, the virus even dies off on its own.”
Shen Feng frowned slightly. “So you’re saying Xiao Hu might be able to save all of humanity?”
After saying that, he glanced at Xiao Hu, who was still bullying Yiyi nearby, and seemed to find his own statement a bit ridiculous.
He let out a quiet chuckle.
“Hey, don’t laugh—it’s not impossible,” Lili said.
I glanced at Suo Tian, hesitated for a moment, then asked, “Could you try talking to them? See if there’s some kind of compromise—at least let us see the child every day and make sure he’s safe.”
“These orders come directly from above. They don’t have any say in it,” Suo Tian replied.
I couldn’t help but let out a heavy sigh. “So we can only let them take Xiao Hu away like this?”
…
Over the next few days, Suo Tian continued leaving early and returning late.
The relationship between Xu Shu and Han Xue eased slightly—they could at least exchange a few words occasionally.
For some reason—perhaps because the situation with Xiao Hu weighed too heavily on my mind—I found myself sleeping more and more each day instead.
It wasn’t that I was deliberately trying to sleep.
It was more like—no matter when or where, as long as I had somewhere to rest my head, I could fall asleep instantly.
At first, everyone thought I just hadn’t been sleeping well at night.
But as time went on, I slept longer and longer, until it reached the point where I was asleep for nearly twenty out of twenty-four hours a day.
That’s when everyone started to get worried.
Whenever they saw me asleep, they would try to wake me up.
At first, I could still be woken, but after a couple of days, even when I could hear them calling me, my whole body felt so weak that I didn’t even want to respond.
Even Bruno couldn’t figure out what was wrong.
Just as everyone was privately discussing whether to send me to the hospital for a check-up, the situation suddenly improved on its own.
Not only did my sleeping time decrease significantly, but my mental state also got much better.
Then, after what seemed like a secret discussion, Lili, Han Xue, and Xu Shu pulled me into the backyard and stuffed something into my hands.
I was about to take it out and look at it, but Lili stopped me.
She looked at me expectantly. “Wait until you get back to your room to open it. And make sure you read the instructions.”
Before I could figure anything out, the three of them dragged me back inside to eat.
During the meal, I tried several times to sneak a peek at the item in my pocket, but each time I was immediately shut down by the three pairs of eyes shooting at me, forcing me to stop.
Yangyang noticed the strange tension between us and asked, “Sister Han Xue, what are you guys doing? You’ve been glaring at my sister several times.”
Han Xue tapped his head with her chopsticks. “What’s it to you, kid? Eat your food!”
“I noticed it too. Do you guys have some kind of secret?” Shen Feng asked curiously.
The moment he spoke, Han Xue immediately lowered her head and started eating without saying a word.
Xu Shu glanced at him, smiled, and shook her head. “Can’t say, can’t say. It might be nothing… or it might be a big surprise.”
Shen Feng looked at Xu Shu, then turned to me. “Chen Yang, you tell me.”
I immediately shook my head helplessly. “I really don’t know what’s going on. Just now, the three of them dragged me out and stuffed—”
Before I could finish, Han Xue cut me off with a loud “Ah ah ah!”
“What’s wrong with you people? Don’t you know the rule—no talking while eating or sleeping?! Just eat, eat, eat! Why so many questions?”
Shen Feng glanced at her helplessly, smiled, shook his head, and went back to eating.
I noticed that both Xu Shu and Han Xue’s expressions darkened the moment they saw that smile.
Especially Xu Shu—although she tried to hide it, the disappointment on her face was still obvious.
Chen Pu, who had been sitting next to Xu Shu, looked around at all of us, then glanced at her again.
He let out a cold snort, slammed his bowl down with a loud bang, and turned to head upstairs.
Only after his figure disappeared toward the second floor did Uncle Gazi ask, puzzled, “What’s gotten into that kid lately? Acting so strange. Did any of you upset him?”
We all shook our heads.
Xu Shu sighed. “Who could have upset him? He’s gone early every morning and only comes back at night. If I ask where he’s been, he won’t say. No one knows what he’s busy with all day. If I say a couple more words, he just pulls a long face like someone owes him money.”
“If you ask me, Chen Pu should’ve already grown out of his rebellious phase. What’s going on with him lately? It’s like he’s a completely different person. Last time, Tingyun accidentally bumped into him, and he kicked her straight to the ground,” Lili said.
As she spoke, Uncle Gazi’s brows unconsciously furrowed.
Because of that incident last time, Uncle Gazi had been so angry his face turned red.
But since Chen Pu was still a kid, he couldn’t really argue with him, so he just held Tingyun and swallowed his anger.
Xu Shu looked up toward the second floor and let out another deep sigh. “I’ll find a chance to have a proper talk with him.”
After dinner, since the atmosphere felt off, everyone went back to their rooms.
After I finished washing the dishes, I waited by the door for a while.
Within a few minutes, I saw a car approaching from afar.
Because of his arm injury, Suo Tian had been getting rides back lately.
A couple of times, it was even that man Gao who brought him back.
I figured something serious must have happened at headquarters—serious enough that Team C and Team B had to cooperate.
Otherwise, how could those two sworn rivals work together like this?
After going upstairs with Suo Tian, I grabbed some clothes and went into the bathroom to shower.
That’s when I suddenly remembered the thing Lili and the others had stuffed into my hands earlier.
I quickly took it out of my pocket.
The moment I saw the words on the box, my entire face turned green…
Early pregnancy test?
Why would they give me this?!
After a moment of panic, I suddenly recalled the past few days—constant drowsiness, lack of energy, reduced appetite… now that I thought about it, it did seem to match…
Thinking back over the past six months, I hesitated for a moment, then picked the box back up from the sink.
After opening it and carefully reading the instructions, I took a deep breath…
Got it… now I get it…
No wonder Xu Shu said it might be a surprise.
If it really turned out positive, wouldn’t that be one hell of a surprise?
Adding a little Suo Tian to the family…
Everything ready, during those few minutes of waiting for the result, I didn’t dare look at the test strip.
I covered my eyes nervously with both hands, trembling slightly.
I couldn’t even tell if I felt happy or not—my mind had already gone completely blank
