“I was talking with Sampson and heard that you escaped from Kurata. Kurata created something called ‘Bio-Digimon.’ With the DigiSoul you emitted, I thought you might be one of them.”
Marcus explained the reason he asked Sora to punch him. “Even though I don’t know how you’re able to emit DigiSoul, at least I can confirm now—you’re not a Bio-Digimon.”
“So?”
“You want to use DigiSoul for Burst Evolution, right? I can tell you how.”
“Please do!” Sora said eagerly.
Marcus grew serious. “Burst Evolution requires pushing your DigiSoul beyond its limits, and different people have different methods.”
‘That’s basically saying nothing…’ Sora muttered inwardly.
“But I do know one simple and universal method.”
“What is it?”
Marcus raised his right fist. “Punch!”
“Punch?” Sora was puzzled.
Marcus nodded. “Yes—keep punching! Even when you’re tired, don’t stop. The fatigue will suppress your stray thoughts and let you clearly sense where the ‘limit’ is, then concentrate your DigiSoul to break past that limit!
“Remember that feeling of going beyond—it’s what Burst Evolution is all about!”
Hearing this, Sora paused for a moment and sighed. “It’s simple… but definitely not easy.”
A simple method, but hard to execute.
Like the classic ‘three steps to put an elephant in the fridge’—sounds short, but doing it?
…
Marcus and BanchoLeomon set out into the vast Digital World to find Kurata.
Meanwhile, Sora, Captain Sampson, Kudamon, and the Digimon like Vademon, Goblimon, Mushroomon, and Otamamon returned to the spot they had landed yesterday.
Once DATS Headquarters opened a gate, they rode the beam of light back to the command room.
DATS HQ had a mini-stadium for team training.
And there was even a proper boxing ring—since Thomas was an Olympic boxing champion.
…
Sora looked around at the available sports facilities. To others, she appeared to be considering which sport to choose—but really, her gaze was blank.
She was spacing out.
Angewomon’s senses were linked to Sora’s, so she could feel Sora’s emotional unrest and asked, “Are you trying to figure out which exercise will push your body to the limit?”
Sora was silent for a while, then softly answered, “No… I’m wondering whether I should even push my body to its limit.”
Angewomon was confused. “Why question that? Reaching and surpassing your limits will grant you the power of Burst Evolution—exactly what we seek.”
Sora sighed lightly. “That’s true, but… exhausting myself to reach my limit would leave me extremely weak afterward.”
Angewomon heard the reasoning—Sora obviously didn’t want to enter a weakened state. “Why not?”
Sora pursed her lips. “It’s not a matter of whether I can… It’s a matter of whether I dare to.”
“Why?”
After thinking shortly, Sora said, “For people who lack a sense of security, willingly placing yourself in a vulnerable state… is like stripping off your clothes in a freezing blizzard.”
‘Lack of security?’
‘…So this is Sora’s true inner world.’ Angewomon realized.
Sora had told her about the Status Screen, yet never shared her past. Angewomon didn’t know where Sora came from or who she used to be, or maybe she had always been alone—thus the deep insecurity.
Angewomon felt a surge of affection and gently said, “I’ll stay with you. Always.”
“Mm, thank you.”
Sora felt a warm calm in her chest.
After a moment, Angewomon added, “I see now. Your twisted personality is actually just a defense mechanism to hide your insecurity.”
“Oh, no, that part’s real.”
“…”
“Let’s begin. Time to push to the limit.”
Sora first transferred her magic power into the Holy Ring on her left calf, dropping her stamina one level, then sent Vademon to summon Marcus, Thomas, and Yoshino.
When they arrived, they said, “Angewomon, why did you call us?”
Sora said, “Spar with me. As the Digital World’s ambassador, I’m officially requesting it. You can’t say no.”
The three exchanged glances.
“I don’t know what ambassador stuff this is, but if it’s a fight, I, Marcus, the brawling boss, am all in!” Marcus shouted, pumped.
“Hold on.” Thomas raised a hand, blocking Marcus
Marcus frowned. “Thomas, what are you doing?”
Thomas said, “Angewomon may be a Digimon, but she’s still a lady.”
Marcus froze. Despite all his battles, he had never fought a woman.
Sora put a hand on her hip and waved dismissively. “How gallant of you. But I don’t mind.”
Thomas smiled and turned to Yoshino. “Yoshino, you go.”
“Huh? Me?” Yoshino blinked.
Looking at Sora standing in the ring, she reluctantly put on protective gear.
Sora offered. “Actually, you don’t need armor. Fist-to-fist would help grow your DigiSoul more.”
Marcus’s eyes lit up, and Thomas looked thoughtful.
They hadn’t been able to join the operation against Kurata because their DigiSouls were too weak, and the more they thought about it, the more it stung.
But Yoshino still kept her gear on.
She wanted a stronger DigiSoul, yes—but not enough to get hurt.
“You can do it, Yoshino!” her Digimon partner Lalamon cheered from below.
Yoshino gave an awkward smile.
Her opponent was Angewomon, an Ultimate-level Digimon. Even if her data said close combat wasn’t her strong suit, Yoshino wasn’t confident.
“Go, Boss!” Goblimon shouted for Sora.
Then, Mushroomon, Otamamon, and Gekomon joined in, and even Kunemon waved his little claws.
Vademon cleared his throat. “Ready—begin!”
As soon as the words fell, the two figures on the ring clashed.
…In the blink of an eye, Yoshino was sent flying off the ring, landing hard on her butt.
“Yay!”
Goblimon, Mushroomon, Otamamon, Gekomon, and Kunemon burst into cheers.
“Yoshino!”
Lalamon rushed to help her up.
Just as Yoshino was about to cry out in pain, a rainbow beam flew over and entered her body. “Ow… wait, it doesn’t hurt anymore.”
The rainbow light was Sora’s Healing Light.
“Thank you,” Yoshino said to Sora.
Sora smiled. “I won’t let anyone get hurt. So go all out.”
She then turned to Marcus and Thomas. “Who’s next?”
“Me!” Marcus jumped into the ring. This time, Thomas didn’t stop him.
And he wore no armor.
“You got this, bro!” Agumon S shouted.
“Boss is unbeatable!” Goblimon yelled.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah!” Mushroomon, Otamamon, and Gekomon echoed.
Agumon S scowled. “Hey, bro, don’t lose!”
Goblimon and the others stared Agumon S down. Agumon S started sweating but didn’t back off. He stared right back.
‘What are you looking at?’
‘Looking at you. Got a problem?’
Sparks seemed to fly in the air.
