Ch 36 : Burn, Digi-Soul!

“Ready—begin!”

With Vademon’s call, two figures on the ring closed in quickly once again.

But unlike the earlier match between Sora and Yoshino, this time their fists collided—white and orange DigiSoul bursting forth.

Boom!

The surging DigiSoul blew a gust across the ring, kicking up dust.

“Now that’s more like it!”

Sora smirked and swung her left fist.

Marcus’s fighting style was street-brawling—raw and instinctual.

However…

In terms of reaction speed, Sora had the edge.

Thud!

Three rounds later, Marcus was knocked off the ring. When he got up, the right side of his face was swollen.

Sora cast a Healing Light at him, removing the pain and restoring his stamina, then muttered, “Still Rookie-level.”

“Rookie-level?” A question mark popped above Yoshino’s head.

Thomas considered. “You mean Marcus’s DigiSoul?”

Actually, she was referring to Marcus himself.

“It’s not over yet!” Marcus kip-upped, ready to climb back onto the ring.

Thomas blocked him.

“What are you doing?” Marcus protested.

“It’s my turn.”

Thomas pushed Marcus aside and vaulted onto the ring—without any protective gear.

After all, this wasn’t about winning or losing but strengthening their DigiSoul.

“Thomas, you…” Marcus muttered, then backed off.

Sora turned to Marcus and said, “Don’t worry. You’ll get your chance again soon.”

Marcus blinked.

Thomas frowned. “Miss Angewomon, I won’t go down easily.”

Not only was he a genius, he was also a world boxing champion—even if it was in the youth division, a world title was a world title.

When it came to hand-to-hand combat, no one in DATS could rival him.

As long as Angewomon didn’t use Digimon-specific techniques, he didn’t think he’d lose.

“Master, good luck!” Gaomon shouted.

Thomas locked eyes with Sora and took his stance.

Vademon shouted, “Ready—begin!”

Five rounds later, Sora had Thomas down on one knee.

“Yeah!” Goblimon, Mushroomon, and the other Digimon cheered.

“You gave it your all, Thomas.”

Sora cast another Healing Light and gestured for him to step down, then turned to Yoshino. “Yoshino, you’re up.”

“Can Marcus go first?” Yoshino asked hopefully.

Sora smiled, “After I knock you down—it’s his turn.”

In other words: No.

Yoshino climbed up with a resigned sigh. This time, she wore no armor. Even with some hesitation, she still wanted to strengthen her DigiSoul.

She wanted to grow!

Yoshino lasted one round before being knocked down again.

Next came Marcus

And so the cycle continued, one after another.

“Too slow. No strength in your punch—and you call yourself the brawling boss?”

“World boxing champion? More like a chump—chump!”

“Burn, DigiSoul!”

At first, Sora could knock out all three within a minute.

But over time, her stamina dropped while the trio’s DigiSoul became more refined—harder and harder to beat.

“Huff… huff…”

Sora was breathing heavily, soaked in sweat.

She had been punching non-stop for three hours. Outside, the sky above DATS HQ had already gone dark. Yet still—she fought.

No, she battled!

Opposite her now stood Marcus

Aside from tattered clothes, he was unharmed—every time Sora sent him flying, he received a Healing Light.

Unfortunately, Healing Light didn’t work on clothing.

Marcus looked at the gasping Sora and said, “Angewomon, can’t you use Healing Light on yourself?”

Sora smiled faintly. “If I did that, everything up to now would be meaningless. Come, Marcus—give me your best.”

“I don’t know what you’re trying to do, but you must have your reasons… I’ll go all out!” Marcus hurled a full-force right punch.

His first punch—contained no DigiSoul.

Sora met it head-on, easily blocking it.

But in the next moment, his fist erupted in burning DigiSoul, as vivid as real flames.

His DigiSoul had grown several times stronger than three hours ago—easily enough to let Agumon S evolve to Champion level.

Thomas and Yoshino had grown just as much.

Faced with that Champion-Level DigiSoul, Sora could no longer tank it unscathed. She was forced back two steps.

“Now’s my chance!”

Marcus’s eyes sharpened, and he fired off a left punch.

Also blazing with DigiSoul, it struck Sora square in the stomach.

“!”

Sora staggered back, slamming into the ring ropes.

Something rose in her throat, into her mouth, and dripped from the corner of her lips. She raised a hand—red.

‘Blood?’

Can Digimon bleed?

Of course they can!

The word “Digital” might make one think they’re made of pure data and incapable of bleeding.

But Digimon are both data and lifeforms. They don’t just have digital ‘skins’ hiding 0s and 1s—they have full biological systems.

… Though plush-types and machine-types have different internals.

Any Digimon with flesh can bleed—and even suffer broken bones.

This is documented in Digimon Adventure, too.

For example, Leomon’s nemesis—Ogremon—was seen bleeding and injured in the first series.

“Heh…”

Sora straightened up, licking the corner of her lips. Her tongue spread the blood, painting her lips crimson with a mix of seduction and madness. “The real fight starts now!”

Marcus felt his blood ignite. “Angewomon, I feel your fighting spirit! Let’s go!”

The moment his words ended, they clashed again.

Boom!

No one cheered from the sidelines. Or rather—Thomas, Yoshino, Gaomon, Lalamon, Vademon, Goblimon, and the others had all forgotten to cheer.

They watched the battle with bated breath, not daring to blink.

One side: Sora, clearly on the edge of collapse but still standing.

The other: Marcus, pouring all his power into every strike in response.

Fight! Fight! Fight! A burning battle! A raging brawl! An ultra showdown!

No fancy moves—just bone-crunching blows, yet the crowd was on edge.

Buzz—!

“I feel it.”

Exhaustion erased all distractions. Sora’s entire focus was now on sensing her DigiSoul—and with it, she perceived the limit.

It was like an invisible shackle.

‘You bastard!’

‘Break it!’

‘Burn, my DigiSoul!’

A dragon shattered the chains. A tiger leaped from its cage.

In that instant, Sora felt absolute clarity—like a martial arts hero unlocking all their inner gates.

In the evolution panel’s options, alongside Fallen Evolution and Mutant Evolution, a new category appeared—

[Burst Evolution]!
