A warm touch suddenly wrapped around her waist.
The moment Shen Nanyue looked up—
Before she could even react, she was swept up into someone’s arms.
A black suit jacket covered the lower half of her body to keep her from being exposed.
Her head tilted from the sudden motion and fell against Zhou Yushen’s chest.
His familiar scent surrounded her.
After two seconds of stunned surprise, she immediately began struggling.
“Let go of me!”
“I already spoke to Assistant Xu. Anything he can handle from today’s schedule, he’ll handle. Anything he can’t will be postponed until tomorrow.”
As he spoke, Zhou Yushen carried her out of the office.
Shen Nanyue no longer had the strength to argue with him.
Outside the office, countless burning, gossip-filled gazes landed on them.
Shen Nanyue turned her head and buried her face into Zhou Yushen’s chest.
The cold, aloof image she had painstakingly maintained in the company had cracked slightly today.
All the way downstairs, Zhou Yushen had just carried Shen Nanyue out of the company entrance when they ran straight into Chen Mu, who apparently still hadn’t left.
Seeing Zhou Yushen carrying Shen Nanyue, Chen Mu’s face darkened as he stepped forward to block their path.
He glared fiercely at Zhou Yushen. “Why are you carrying Yueyue?”
Yueyue?
Feeling the person in his arms shrink slightly, her hand pressing even tighter against her stomach— Zhou Yushen’s expression became increasingly dark.
“Move.”
He spoke calmly, but the low voice carried suppressed anger.
Combined with the cold aura rolling off him, Chen Mu instantly felt the pressure.
He froze.
Yet Zhou Yushen didn’t spare him another glance.
He simply carried Shen Nanyue into the car.
Watching the car disappear into the distance, the anger in Chen Mu’s heart spread further and further.
When had Zhou Yushen returned?!
…
At the hospital—
Zhou Yushen registered Shen Nanyue for emergency treatment.
Shen Nanyue lay groggily on the hospital bed with an IV drip attached to her hand.
The doctor instructed Zhou Yushen, “The patient likely has irregular eating habits and ate something irritating this morning, which triggered gastric spasms. I’ll prescribe some medicine. After the IV is finished, let her eat something warm and easy to digest before taking the medication.”
“Make sure she maintains regular eating habits in the future, otherwise this could happen again.”
Zhou Yushen thanked the doctor.
After the doctor left, he walked to the bedside and sat down.
Looking at Shen Nanyue’s pale little face—even in her sleep, her brows were tightly furrowed, as though she were enduring immense pain.
His eyes darkened.
Reaching out, he gently wiped away the cold sweat on her face.
After checking the IV bottle, he turned around and called Li Che.
Less than half an hour later, Li Che rushed to the hospital carrying vegetable porridge.
When he entered the room, Shen Nanyue’s IV had just finished, and the nurse was removing the needle.
“What happened? Why were you suddenly hospitalized?”
Having slept for half an hour, Shen Nanyue had already woken up.
The first thing she said upon seeing Li Che was—
“Don’t tell An’an.”
“The patient can be discharged after eating something and being observed for an hour if nothing unusual happens.”
“Thank you.”
After the nurse left, Zhou Yushen helped Shen Nanyue sit up and set up the small table in front of her.
His words, however, were merciless.
“Eat. You’re still worrying about other people at a time like this.”
Shen Nanyue glared at him.
But considering he had brought her to the hospital, she didn’t say anything.
Li Che handed over the porridge.
Seeing that the two of them still had the energy to bicker, he had no intention of staying as a third wheel.
“I still have something to do. My delivery mission is complete, so I’ll get going first.”
Li Che was truly professional.
Since he was told to bring one serving of porridge, he had brought exactly one serving.
After Shen Nanyue ate a little more than half of it, she suddenly looked at Zhou Yushen beside her.
“Have you eaten?”
Zhou Yushen shook his head.
Only then did Shen Nanyue say, “Then go eat something. I’ll head back to the company later.”
Zhou Yushen let out a cold laugh. “You’re already like this and you still want to go to the company? Is there someone there?”
“No. But there’s money.”
Shen Nanyue still couldn’t stand his sarcastic tone and snapped back irritably.
Yet Zhou Yushen remained firm.
“Assistant Xu can hold down the company. It won’t collapse. You’re not going anywhere today.”
After speaking forcefully, he picked up the half-finished bowl of porridge Shen Nanyue had left behind and started eating it.
“Hey! If you want to eat, buy your own bowl!”
Ordering takeout would work too!
What was the point of eating her leftovers?
“Wasting food is shameful,” Zhou Yushen replied calmly.
Shen Nanyue no longer argued with him.
If he didn’t mind it, then what was there for her to care about?
Leaning against the hospital bed, her gaze drifted toward Zhou Yushen as he ate the porridge.
Even sitting in a hospital room, eating porridge from a takeout container, his table manners were still elegant.
Shen Nanyue silently looked away and turned her attention to the towering buildings outside the window.
The pain in her stomach had already eased considerably.
As time passed second by second, drowsiness slowly crept over her once more.
“Nanyue, take your medicine before sleeping.”
The low, gentle voice beside her sounded comforting.
Mumbling something incoherent without opening her eyes, she merely turned her head and continued drifting off.
In her hazy consciousness, she vaguely felt herself being helped upright, a capsule being slipped into her mouth at just the right moment.
Instinctively, she tried to spit it out, but warmth brushed against her lips.
Warm water was fed to her, and she swallowed reflexively.
Along with that motion, the capsule slid smoothly down her throat.
When she woke up again, it was already afternoon.
Her stomach felt empty, but the pain had completely disappeared.
She didn’t get up immediately.
Instead, she remained lying on her side, watching the dim golden sunset reflecting off the glass windows of the building across from her.
After spacing out for nearly two minutes, she slowly sat up.
It had been a long time since she had slept this well.
Dreamless, and waking up naturally.
Only her head still felt slightly groggy.
Zhou Yushen sat on the sofa in the hospital room, handling work on his laptop.
The moment movement came from the hospital bed, he had already set aside his work.
By the time Shen Nanyue sat up, he was already walking toward her.
“You’re awake? Does it still hurt?”
There wasn’t a trace of falseness in his concerned gaze.
Shen Nanyue’s heart stirred slightly, and she slowly looked away.
“It doesn’t hurt anymore. Thank you for today. I’ll treat you to dinner another day.”
As she spoke, she prepared to get out of bed.
The offer of dinner had merely been a polite courtesy, but Zhou Yushen took it seriously.
Smiling as he watched her movements, he thoughtfully took her shoes from beneath the bed and placed them by her feet.
While doing so, he said, “Sure. But I’m a little busy these next couple of days. Can I decide the time and place for dinner?”
Shen Nanyue froze slightly.
Even her movements paused.
Zhou Yushen picked up her shoes, about to help her put them on.
Shen Nanyue quickly got up and stepped into them herself, rising onto her toes to slip on the high heels.
Somewhat awkwardly, she said, “Sure… you decide.”
Originally, she had never intended to actually invite him to dinner.
But now, she felt too embarrassed to refuse.
After handling the discharge procedures, the two of them left the hospital together.
The moment they stepped outside, they ran into Gu Linlang, who had chased Zhou Yushen all the way to Fengcheng.
The instant she saw Zhou Yushen, Gu Linlang hurried over.
“Ah Shen, why are you at the hospital? Are you feeling unwell somewhere? Auntie asked me to follow you to Fengcheng and take good care of you. If you weren’t feeling well, why didn’t you tell me?”
She looked exactly like a wife worried about her husband.
The expression Shen Nanyue had only just softened instantly turned cold again.
