Zhou Yushen glanced over the message and, after a moment of thought, took Shen Nanyue down to the underground parking garage.
Shen Nanyue was just about to ask why he had brought her here when Zhou Yushen’s gaze settled on a corner of the garage.
Following his line of sight, Shen Nanyue narrowed her eyes and spotted a tiny hidden surveillance camera tucked away in the corner.
She looked surprised. “You set this up?”
Zhou Yushen nodded. “Since they’re conducting transactions during the exchange event, they definitely won’t use the main entrance. The parking garage is the best route in.”
Shen Nanyue watched as he sent someone a message.
Very quickly, he received a video.
He handed the phone to Shen Nanyue.
The two of them watched footage from around dawn.
A black van appeared in the video, its license plate deliberately covered and impossible to identify.
Several men got out and unloaded a massive crate from the van.
The box was enormous—around two meters wide and two meters tall.
The men carried the crate into the elevator.
“What could fit inside something that big?”
If it were contraband, they probably wouldn’t conduct the transaction so openly at such a formal event.
Shen Nanyue frowned deeply.
What exactly was it?
Just as she was lost in thought, a large hand suddenly wrapped around her waist.
The next second, her body lifted off the ground as she crashed into a man’s chest.
Bang!
A muffled grunt sounded beside her ear.
Turning her head, she saw a spiked club slam into Zhou Yushen’s shoulder.
“Stay here.”
Zhou Yushen’s deep voice sounded beside her ear before his arm loosened from her waist.
Shen Nanyue staggered slightly in her high heels before managing to steady herself.
Heavy sounds of fists hitting flesh rang out nearby.
She turned and saw Zhou Yushen fighting against five men at once.
Just as she was debating whether she should step in to help—
Zhou Yushen had already taken all five of them down.
Everything happened so quickly that even Shen Nanyue couldn’t react in time.
She froze for a second before hurriedly pulling out her phone to call the police.
Then she stepped forward and looked at Zhou Yushen’s bloodied shoulder.
“You’re hurt.”
“I’m fine. Did you call the police?”
Shen Nanyue nodded.
Only then did Zhou Yushen crouch down.
He casually grabbed one of the men by the hair and yanked his head upward viciously.
“Why did you attack us?”
“S-Sorry! I was wrong! I was just paid to do a job! Please don’t let the police arrest me!”
The man apologized frantically, terrified.
None of them had expected this man to be so skilled.
The five of them had been knocked down before the fight had even properly started.
Shen Nanyue frowned. “Who paid you? What were you supposed to do?”
“Someone paid us to teach you a lesson. As for who it was, we don’t know.” The man pointed at Shen Nanyue.
Shen Nanyue looked puzzled.
Who had she offended now?
Who would go as far as hiring people to attack her?
Zhou Yushen’s expression darkened.
He made a phone call, and less than a minute later, Li Che arrived in the parking garage with several people.
“Don’t let any of them get away.”
Zhou Yushen stood up, pulling Shen Nanyue up with him.
Li Che frowned when he saw Zhou Yushen’s shoulder.
“Your injury…”
“It’s nothing.”
The sharp spikes of the club had pierced the flesh of his shoulder, which was why he was bleeding.
Shen Nanyue pressed her lips together, guilt flickering across her face.
“You should go get treatment first. The police will be here soon. I can explain everything to them.”
“Let’s wait until the police arrive first.”
Zhou Yushen clearly didn’t care much about his injury.
Shen Nanyue looked like she wanted to say something, but in the end remained silent.
When the police arrived and learned about the situation, they took the attackers away.
Normally, the involved parties would also need to go to the police station to give statements.
But Shen Nanyue noticed Zhou Yushen’s face had already turned pale, and his black suit was heavily stained with blood.
She made a quick decision and turned to Li Che.
“Sorry to trouble you, but could you go with the police? I’ll take him to the hospital first.”
Li Che nodded.
Ignoring Zhou Yushen’s objections, Shen Nanyue forcefully dragged him into the car.
Surprisingly, Zhou Yushen didn’t resist.
Instead, as he looked at Shen Nanyue holding onto his hand, the corners of his lips unconsciously curved upward.
Seems like pretending to pale his face by tensing his muscles wasn’t a waste after all.
Looks like Shen Nanyue wasn’t truly as heartless as she acted.
After the two left, Gu Linlang came down from the elevator.
She looked at Li Che. “Where’s Ah Shen?”
Just as Li Che was about to leave with the police, his face instantly turned cold when he saw Gu Linlang.
“Yushen went on a date with Shen Nanyue. You’d better not disturb them.”
Li Che had never liked Gu Linlang.
A woman who had clung to Zhou Yushen ever since her mother was hospitalized—calculating and morally questionable.
Back when Zhou Yushen had mistaken her for the girl in his heart, Li Che had never believed it.
Thankfully, it had all turned out to be a misunderstanding.
Hearing Li Che’s words, Gu Linlang’s already pale face turned even whiter.
“That’s impossible! Ah Shen would never do something like that! He’s going to marry me—we…”
“Gu Linlang, the one who agreed to let you marry Yushen was Han Ping, wasn’t it? Do you really think a stepmother can control the rest of Yushen’s life?”
Li Che sneered mercilessly.
“If you really want to marry into the Zhou family, then go marry Han Ping instead. Society’s pretty open-minded these days. No one will judge you for it.”
Gu Linlang trembled with rage, her chest heaving violently.
“Li Che! You have no right to insult me!”
“Need qualifications to insult you?” Li Che scoffed coldly.
“Gu Linlang, don’t think too highly of yourself. In Yushen’s eyes, you’re nothing. If it weren’t for your mother’s dying wish, he wouldn’t have bothered with you after you betrayed him just because of one sentence from Han Ping.”
After saying that, Li Che turned and started to leave, completely ignoring the fact that Gu Linlang was clutching her chest and coughing.
Suddenly, he stopped.
Turning back toward her, his gaze turned icy cold.
“Speaking of which… how did you know Yushen was here? And how did you know something had happened here?”
Gu Linlang’s hand froze against her chest, her face growing paler and paler.
…
Shen Nanyue brought Zhou Yushen to the hospital.
After he took off his clothes, she finally saw the extent of the injuries on his shoulder—countless wounds, along with several deep bloody holes.
Some of them were still steadily oozing blood.
Looking again at Zhou Yushen’s face, she noticed it had already gone pale, tinged with exhaustion.
Shen Nanyue frowned.
“This wound is very deep. It needs stitches.”
The doctor pointed to one of the wounds on Zhou Yushen’s shoulder and spoke to Shen Nanyue.
That was the deepest injury.
“Sorry to trouble you,” Shen Nanyue replied.
The doctor quickly stitched up the wound.
“Later, he’ll need an IV antibiotic drip. You’re his wife, so keep an eye on the IV fluid.”
“I’m not—”
Shen Nanyue was about to explain when Zhou Yushen interrupted her first.
“Understood. Thank you, doctor.”
The doctor nodded and left the room.
Shen Nanyue immediately turned to glare at Zhou Yushen.
Slowly and carefully, Zhou Yushen put his torn suit jacket back on, completely ignoring her glare.
“I got hurt because of you. Are you really going to leave me alone in the hospital? I’m exhausted right now. What if I fall asleep while the IV is running and don’t notice the fluid level? If air enters my bloodstream, I’ll definitely die…”
“Enough. Let’s go.”
Shen Nanyue shot him a fierce glare before turning around and heading to the nurses’ station first to arrange a hospital room for him.
