Ch 145 : Sleep

“Sister Linlang, do you know President Shen?”

Gu Linlang looked at Mi Xin.

Her mind raced, and within moments she had devised a plan.

Lowering her head, she let a look of deep sorrow appear on her face.

“Yes.”

“Then do you know…”

Mi Xin couldn’t bring herself to finish the question, afraid of making Gu Linlang even sadder.

In her eyes, Gu Linlang and President Zhou were a match made in heaven.

She had joined Qianzhang Entertainment because of Gu Linlang, who had given her a valuable opportunity early in her career.

She simply couldn’t accept the idea of President Zhou having another woman on the side.

Gu Linlang nodded.

“I know everything. Ah Shen and that woman, Shen Nanyue… they…”

At that point, she covered her face and began to cry.

The tears were genuine.

But mixed in with the sadness was an even deeper hatred toward Zhou Yushen and Shen Nanyue.

Mi Xin immediately sat beside her and gently wrapped an arm around her shoulders.

“Sister Linlang, don’t cry. They’re the ones who wronged you. You didn’t do anything wrong.”

Gu Linlang sobbed quietly in her embrace.

After a long while, she finally lifted her head, wiped away her tears, and forced a smile onto her face.

“Let’s not talk about this anymore. Since you’ve come to Fengcheng, I should’ve spent some time with you. But look at me now…”

She sighed.

Mi Xin felt even more sympathetic.

“Sister Linlang, getting better should be your priority. But your illness looks pretty serious. What exactly is wrong?”

“It’s nothing. Just an old illness acting up again.”

Gu Linlang smiled faintly.

Her pale complexion made her look especially frail and pitiful.

“An old illness? I thought you’d already recovered from that. How did it come back?”

Gu Linlang lowered her eyes guiltily.

“Maybe my immune system isn’t what it used to be. You know I’ve always had poor health…”

As an actress, Mi Xin was naturally sensitive to people’s emotions.

And Gu Linlang’s deliberately guilty expression didn’t escape her notice.

She formed a few suspicions but chose not to ask.

At that moment, Mi Xin’s assistant appeared at the door to remind her about her next appointment.

Left with no choice, Mi Xin said goodbye.

“Sister Linlang, I’ll come visit you again in a couple of days. Focus on getting better first.”

“I know. Go take care of your work.”

After Mi Xin left, the smile on Gu Linlang’s face vanished instantly.

She wasn’t going to let this end so easily.

As Mi Xin quietly left the hospital, she gave instructions to her assistant.

“Look into what happened to Sister Linlang in Fengcheng. Find out why she suddenly became so seriously ill.”

The assistant was merely a personal assistant, not an investigator.

She looked hesitant.

“Sis, I don’t even know how to investigate something like that…”

Mi Xin frowned.

“Then hire a private investigator. Problem solved. I’ll pay for it.”

The assistant’s eyes lit up immediately.

“Got it!”

By the time Zhou Yushen showed up at Shen Corporation for the nth time, Shen Nanyue had become completely immune to it.

The moment she heard his voice, she didn’t even bother looking up from her work.

“Even if you don’t have Zhou Corporation to manage anymore, you still have Qianzhang Entertainment. Why are you so free every day?”

“If I were really free, I wouldn’t be this exhausted.”

Shen Nanyue’s hands paused over her work.

She looked up at Zhou Yushen, who had somehow appeared beside her desk.

He stood tall in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows.

Loose strands of hair fell across his forehead.

The dark circles under his eyes were painfully obvious.

His suit jacket was draped over one arm.

He wore a black dress shirt beneath a vest, and his tie had been loosened, giving him an unusually lazy appearance.

Yet every inch of him radiated exhaustion.

“…You didn’t sleep at all last night?”

More than one night.

Lately, he hadn’t been sleeping well at all.

Every time he closed his eyes, endless flames surrounded him.

A girl’s cries for help.

His mother’s screams of pain.

The sounds haunted his mind like a curse.

Only when he was near Shen Nanyue did the restless turmoil inside him ease, even if only a little.

“I’ve just been busy lately.”

Shen Nanyue frowned.

“Then why are you here?”

Instead of working.

Instead of sleeping.

Instead of dealing with his responsibilities.

He kept running to her office every few days.

Zhou Yushen looked at her.

“I came here to sleep with you.”

Zhou Yushen bent down and looked at her face with complete seriousness.

The moment he saw Shen Nanyue’s expression darken, he chuckled softly and explained before she could explode.

“I’m borrowing your lounge for a nap.”

Without waiting for her approval, he turned and headed toward a concealed door not far behind her desk.

By the time Shen Nanyue snapped out of it and tried to stop him, he had already disappeared into the lounge.

She was left speechless.

What could she even do?

If he wanted to sleep, couldn’t he just go home?

Would sleeping here somehow be more comfortable?

“President Shen, your meeting starts in ten minutes.”

“Got it.”

After organizing her documents, Shen Nanyue left with Assistant Xu.

The lounge behind the president’s office had been designed and left behind by Old Master Shen.

Inside were both a bed and a private bathroom.

Shen Nanyue kept several changes of clothes there, along with a full set of toiletries, in case she worked too late and didn’t feel like going home.

The moment Zhou Yushen entered, he kicked off his shoes and collapsed onto the bed.

The bedding carried Shen Nanyue’s unique scent—a faint fragrance of roses.

Curling onto his side, he hugged the blanket and breathed in the familiar aroma.

Before long, he fell asleep.

By the time Shen Nanyue returned from her meeting, he had already entered a deep sleep.

After enduring an especially frustrating meeting, she rubbed her temples and sat back down behind her desk.

Assistant Xu stood before her.

“President Shen, your uncle isn’t satisfied with the spokesperson you’ve chosen. Should we arrange a gathering so everyone can meet? Otherwise, those shareholders won’t stop causing trouble.”

“No need.”

Shen Nanyue’s voice was calm.

“I already made my position on the spokesperson clear. My uncle is only picking a fight because he wants to find fault with me. Or perhaps he’s suddenly found another candidate he wants to support.”

She looked up.

“Go investigate.”

A flash of admiration crossed Assistant Xu’s eyes.

Shen Nanyue’s growth had been astonishingly fast.

“I’ll look into it immediately.”

He nodded and left.

Less than ten minutes later, Assistant Xu returned.

“President Shen, Miss Mi Xin is here. She says she has something to discuss with you.”

The moment he finished speaking, Mi Xin walked into the office as if she were already familiar with the place.

Assistant Xu frowned slightly.

He had specifically asked her to wait outside, yet she had entered on her own.

Shen Nanyue didn’t comment.

“Assistant Xu, please bring Miss Mi Xin a coffee.”

“Yes, President Shen.”

Assistant Xu left.

Shen Nanyue gestured toward the sofa.

The two women sat facing each other.

Mi Xin removed her sunglasses.

Her skin was smooth and luminous like polished jade, glowing with a pearly sheen.

Light makeup enhanced her youthful beauty, making her appear even more vibrant and attractive.

“President Shen, I’m here because I need to talk to you about something.”

“What is it?”

Mi Xin’s gaze traveled slowly over Shen Nanyue from head to toe.

Then she asked a question that had nothing to do with work.

“What exactly is the relationship between you and President Zhou?”

Shen Nanyue’s expression changed immediately.

Her eyes gradually turned cold.

“Miss Mi, we’re not close enough to discuss something that personal, are we?”

A trace of displeasure appeared in Mi Xin’s eyes.

“No, we’re not.”

She paused.

“But I’m close with Sister Linlang. And this trip…”

Her gaze remained fixed on Shen Nanyue.

“…I’m here on Sister Linlang’s behalf.”

Zhou Yushen was famously known as an untouchable iceberg beauty—everyone said he was far beyond anyone’s reach. But only Shen Nanyue knew the blazing passion and madness hidden beneath his cold and austere exterior.

At first, she thought he only lusted after her beauty, addicted to the desire and intoxication of the night. Yet when he willingly bowed before her, content to become utterly devoted to her, she finally understood—love had always been a kind of willing taming, one powerful enough to pull the cold moon hanging high in the heavens down into the mortal dust.
