Shen Nanyue let out a soft laugh and picked up her chopsticks again.
She didn’t believe in marriage, nor did she think that two people could necessarily live better than one.
But she hoped Shen An’an could find a stable place to belong.
Over the years, Shen An’an had lived with the Shen family.
Although they had always been close, Shen Nanyue could clearly feel that An’an’s heart had never truly settled.
Deep down, the Shen family was never really her home.
Shen An’an had always lacked a sense of security.
Even though she wanted to reunite with her biological parents, she approached them cautiously, constantly observing them, and found it difficult to accept their affection all at once.
Only Li Che—the man who had come all the way from the capital for her—was someone Shen An’an relied on unconditionally.
Shen Nanyue could tell that Shen An’an was genuinely relaxed when she was with him.
She truly hoped Shen An’an would find happiness.
…
It wasn’t rush hour, so the roads were clear.
Li Che arrived at the airport at three o’clock.
Along the way, he had called Shen An’an several times, but none of the calls went through.
He was anxious the entire journey, afraid that Shen An’an was still angry with him and might impulsively decide to stay overseas and never come back.
He absolutely would not allow that!
He ran into the airport and, after confirming that her flight had not yet departed, rushed toward the security checkpoint.
His gaze swept across the entire terminal, but he couldn’t find Shen An’an anywhere.
There was still no reply to any of his messages or calls.
His heart grew increasingly uneasy.
Suddenly thinking of something, he ran to the information desk.
“I need to find someone. Please help me make an announcement.”
Soon, a pleasant female voice echoed throughout the airport.
“Ms. Shen An’an, please proceed to Hall One. Your fiancé is looking for you.”
“…”
The announcement played several times in succession.
Still, Li Che received no response from Shen An’an—not even a text message.
He began to think that she simply didn’t want to see him.
Without hesitation, he stepped forward and took the microphone from the announcer.
His deep, magnetic voice rang through the entire airport.
“An’an, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have given you the cold shoulder. I apologize. You can hit me or scold me if you want, but please don’t ignore me. Even if you don’t want to see me, at least give me a call. I’m begging you.”
The usually composed and intimidating Li Che now looked like a reckless young man madly in love.
His voice was sincere, trembling with emotion.
He was terrified that Shen An’an might truly leave without looking back.
At last, his phone rang.
It was Shen An’an.
He answered immediately.
“An’an…”
“Li Che! Have you lost your mind?!”
Shen An’an’s furious voice exploded from the other end.
“I just didn’t check my phone for a while and didn’t reply to your messages. Did you really have to take it to the airport broadcast station? There are so many people here! This is absolutely humiliating!”
Her sweet yet exasperated complaints came through the phone.
Far from getting angry, Li Che smiled in relief.
His heart finally settled back into place.
“An’an, where are you? I’ll come find you. Or you can come to Hall One…”
“I’m not going to Hall One and letting everyone watch me! Come to the second floor. I’m waiting outside McDonald’s.”
Without waiting for his response, Shen An’an hung up.
Li Che didn’t mind in the slightest.
Still smiling, he put away his phone and left the broadcasting room.
The staff inside shook their heads helplessly.
Airport romance-drama scenes really never repeated themselves year after year.
Li Che moved quickly.
Shen An’an had only been waiting for two or three minutes when she spotted him.
Pulling her suitcase behind her, she marched toward him with a flushed face.
“You—”
Before she could finish her sentence, Li Che pulled her into a tight embrace.
“I’m sorry, An’an. I’ll never give you the cold shoulder again.”
His warm breath brushed against her ear, making her feel ticklish.
Instinctively, she tilted her head away.
But Li Che’s arms were wrapped around her so tightly that she couldn’t move even if she tried.
Feeling somewhat helpless, she said, “I’m not angry with you.”
Li Che froze.
He released her and looked into her eyes in confusion.
“If you’re not angry with me, then why didn’t you tell me about something as important as going abroad to meet your biological family? And why didn’t you answer any of the calls or messages I sent?”
“I didn’t reply because I was eating and didn’t have time to look at my phone. Besides, my phone was on silent!”
Shen An’an hurriedly explained.
“Then what about going abroad to meet your family?”
Shen An’an fell silent for two seconds.
Then, blushing deeply, she replied in an adorably stubborn tone, “I was going to tell you… but I couldn’t bring myself to be the first one to message you!”
Li Che finally relaxed.
Fortunately, it was only a lovers’ quarrel.
Seeing that he was still smiling, Shen An’an asked in confusion, “You’re not angry with me?”
Holding her hand, Li Che spoke softly.
“Being angry is one thing. Loving you is another. I’ve already lost three years with you. I would never leave you over something this small. Besides…”
Shen An’an looked at him, waiting for him to continue.
“An’an, can you say ‘I love you’?”
Shen An’an’s heart trembled.
At first, she thought it sounded embarrassingly cheesy, but when she met Li Che’s serious and sincere gaze, she froze.
Remembering their conversation from yesterday, she suddenly wondered if he had always felt insecure about her feelings.
The last traces of her awkwardness gradually faded away.
Her face flushed red as she softly said, “I love you…”
Before she could finish speaking, her lips were sealed by a kiss.
Li Che cupped the back of her head and kissed her deeply.
The kiss was gentle yet possessive, as though he wanted her to belong entirely to him.
At last, he had heard those three words from Shen An’an herself.
There were plenty of people around them.
Kissing in public made Shen An’an mortified.
Feeling the occasional glances directed at them from all sides, she felt as though she had been stripped naked under everyone’s gaze.
She bit down hard on Li Che’s lip.
Finally feeling the sting, Li Che released her.
Before he could say anything, Shen An’an quickly grabbed his hand and dragged him to a quieter corner.
She glared at him unhappily.
“Next time, can you at least find somewhere private before kissing me? Aren’t you embarrassed at all?”
Her lips were still glistening from the kiss.
Li Che’s thoughts wandered for a moment before he heard the irritation in her voice.
Not only did he not feel embarrassed, he lowered his head and whispered into her ear, “Alright. Next time we’ll find somewhere private to kiss.”
Heat instantly rushed to Shen An’an’s ears.
She looked up and shot him a fierce glare.
Li Che only laughed and wrapped an arm around her shoulders.
At that moment, he truly felt happiness.
The unsettled emotions that had been weighing on Shen An’an since yesterday were finally put to rest as well.
Leaning quietly against his chest, she muttered, “You hadn’t finished what you were saying earlier. Besides what?”
With her ear pressed against his chest, she could hear a brief chuckle rumble from deep within him.
The next second, she heard his answer.
“Besides, I’ve confirmed it now—you love me very much, and I love you very much too.”
His deep, slightly playful voice was incredibly pleasant to listen to.
Even words that might have sounded cheesy felt different coming from him.
They seemed to carry a melody of their own, circling around her ears and filling her with a sense of warmth and security.
Without realizing it, the corners of her lips curved upward into a smile.
