Ch 23 : There’s No Angel Kinder Than Me

DATS Headquarters had predominantly white decor, exuding a strong sci-fi aesthetic, resembling the kind of base frequently seen in science fiction works.

Tonight, the command room at headquarters was particularly lively.

In addition to the usual team members, there were also Sora, Vademon, Mushroomon, Otamamon, Gawappamon, Kunemon, and the unconscious Digimon Hunter, Kouki.

Even Director Hashima, who rarely came down to the lower levels, was present in person.

Director Hashima scrutinized Sora, rubbing his hands together in a humble manner, and asked with a smile, “Are you the diplomat from the Digital World?”

“What do you think?” Sora casually grabbed a swivel chair and sat down, crossing her right leg over her left.

Her demeanor and posture were downright relaxed as if she considered the DATS command room her own home.

Vademon and Goblimon stood to her left, while Mushroomon, Otamamon, Gawappamon, and Kunemon were to her right, resembling a group of bodyguards.

“…” Marcus, Thomas, Yoshino, and the others exchanged glances.

Now back in its Rookie form, Kudamon, perched on Captain Sampson’s shoulder, said, “There’s no such thing as a diplomat in the Digital World.”

Sora didn’t seem embarrassed at being exposed. Instead, she chuckled lightly, “Despite possessing advanced technology and power, the Digital World’s social structure is still in a tribal stage. Of course, diplomats don’t exist there.”

Kudamon frowned, ‘Is she mocking us?’

Even if what she said was true…

Director Hashima had already been somewhat skeptical, regardless upon hearing that the Digital World had no diplomats, his last bit of hope was extinguished.

If Sora really were a diplomat, this whole situation wouldn’t be his responsibility, but since she wasn’t, the burden fell on him.

Director Hashima straightened his back, growing angrier the more he thought about it.

He roared, “Do you have any idea how much trouble your recklessness has caused me?!”

The existence of Digimon was supposed to be a secret. If only a few people knew, DATS could simply erase their memories using their memory-wiping device.

But tonight’s chase between Sora and Bio-Thunderbirmon had been too widespread, with too many witnesses. Even with the memory eraser, it was impossible to conceal the existence of Digimon anymore.

This would seriously impact his career!

Sora chuckled, “If you find it troublesome, you can resign. There are plenty of people willing to take your place.”

“You—!” Director Hashima was momentarily speechless, totally humiliated.

‘I just wanted to vent my frustration… was that really necessary?’

He quickly composed himself, pretending nothing had happened, and turned to Captain Sampson.

“I still have to deal with the aftermath. I’ll leave these Digimon to you, Captain Sampson.”

Captain Sampson nodded.

With a snort, Director Hashima clasped his hands behind his back and strode out of the DATS command room.

Once the doors shut, a few crisp laughs rang out from the crowd.

Everyone turned to the source of the laughter—it was DATS operators Miki Kurosaki and Megumi Shirakawa, the former with long purple hair and the latter with short blonde hair.

They had joined DATS before Marcus, Thomas, and Yoshino and were more familiar with Director Hashima, often suffering under his strict management.

Seeing their boss get put down like that was quite satisfying.

Captain Sampson cleared his throat, restoring order to the room.

He looked at Sora, “Angewomon, you’re a rather unique Digimon.”

“That’s an obvious fact. No need to state the obvious,” Sora replied with a faint smile.

“…You called yourself a diplomat, but in reality, you were trying to draw out DATS, weren’t you?”

Sora glanced around, “I’m unfamiliar with this world. Finding this place would have been quite difficult.”

‘Unfamiliar?’

Captain Sampson wasn’t convinced, but he didn’t press the issue. Rather, he asked, “Why did you seek us out?”

“It’s simple. We want to return to the Digital World.”

Upon hearing this, Vademon, Mushroomon, Otamamon, Gawappamon, and Kunemon all looked at Captain Sampson with hopeful eyes.

The human world was terrifying—they wanted to go home!

Captain Sampson remained silent, but Kudamon on his shoulder spoke, “Any Digimon that has caused chaos in the human world must return in the form of a Digi-Egg.”

Sora asked, “Why?”

“Because those who make mistakes must face consequences.”

Sora chuckled, “You have a point. But what if we were captured and brought here against our will?”

“Captured?”

Kudamon was stunned.

Marcus, Thomas, Yoshino, Captain Sampson, Miki, and Megumi all were surprised.

Up until now, DATS had only encountered Digimon who accidentally fell into the human world—this was the first time they’d heard of Digimon being forcibly brought here.

But who could capture Digimon from the Digital World?

Sora pointed at the unconscious Kouki, “It was them who brought us from the Digital World.”

“Them?”

“They are Digimon Hunters.”

Sora walked over to Kouki, and nudged his stomach with her foot, “You’ve been awake for a while now. If you keep pretending, I’ll make sure you never wake up again.”

Kouki slowly opened his eyes, glaring at Sora with hatred.

He snorted coldly, “Bitch! Get away from me!”

Sora smiled slightly and lifted her left foot, pressing the heel onto a spot just below Kouki’s abdomen.

Rotating her heel counterclockwise, she positioned the one-centimeter-wide tip precisely.

With a sweet smile, she said, “If I apply just a bit of pressure, what do you think will happen?”

Kouki’s face instantly turned pale, sweat beading on his forehead, “Y-you-you…”

Marcus and Thomas were dumbfounded, and even Captain Sampson’s pupils contracted slightly.

Agumon, Gaomon, and the other Digimon, however, looked confused.

Yoshino, Miki, and Megumi exchanged knowing glances.

“I’ll count to three. Three…” Sora said with a grin.

“No!” Kouki cried, his earlier bravado gone.

“Two.”

Kouki hastily said, “I’m sorry! I raised my voice earlier. Ask me anything—I’ll tell you everything I know!”

Sora chuckled and retracted her foot.

Kouki exhaled in relief as if he had just escaped death.

“Are you really an angel?” Kudamon said, looking at Angewomon in disbelief.

Sora smiled, “Of course. I’m a genuine Cyber Angel.”

She stretched out her wings.

Angewomon’s wings had far greater flexibility than other angels’. When fully extended, they were eight radiant feathers, and when folded, they resembled a flowing cape.

Sora patted her chest, “There’s no angel kinder than me.”

“…” Kudamon was speechless.

Was she misunderstanding the concept of kindness?

By all logic, given her behavior, she should have fallen into becoming a dark Digimon by now.

Something like… LadyDevimon, perhaps?
