Ch 28 : Die a Glorious Death

“This matter is highly classified. Without my permission, do not tell anyone!”

Captain Sampson spoke sternly with a serious face.

Kurosaki Miki nodded. “Yes!”

Captain Sampson turned to Sora. “Miss Angewomon, I hope you can keep this confidential as well.”

“Don’t worry. We want the same thing.”

Sora wished for Kurata’s demise as soon as possible too, so she fully supported Captain Sampson’s undercover plan—she even hoped it would succeed today.

Kudamon spoke up. “Since you already know about this, you will be responsible for contacting Kouki.”

“Me?” Sora was stunned.

Kudamon continued, “I can sense your passionate heart.”

With Sora’s carefree attitude and unrestrained manner, it was a wonder she could maintain her Angewomon form. Normally, that should have been impossible.

Unless…

Her inner faith in holiness and justice had reached an unshakable level.

Yes, only those with unwavering convictions could remain unaffected by external influences. Otherwise, strict rules and precepts would be needed to prevent them from falling into corruption.

It was akin to the words of an ancient monk: “Wine and meat may pass through my intestines, but the Buddha remains in my heart.” Only those with profound spiritual attainment could achieve such a state.

The Angewomon before him must be the same—acting freely but with a firm heart.

Though Kudamon was a Royal Knight and a messenger of the gods, he deeply respected those with such inner strength.

“A passionate heart?”

Sora stroked her chin in contemplation. ‘Do I have that?’

If it were about sensuality, maybe.

Passion, though? Not so sure.

“I appreciate your praise, but you have far more capable operators.”

Besides, it wasn’t like this job needed her specifically—No way she was doing overtime.

Sora pointed at Kurosaki Miki, “The professionals should handle professional tasks, don’t you think?”

Miki forced a smile, internally resigned. Another task was added to her workload—one that likely came with no overtime pay.

“Alright then,” Kudamon nodded. “But I still hope you can provide some suggestions. Your wisdom is valuable to us.”

“I’ll do my best.”

This time, Sora didn’t refuse and agreed. Then, she patted her stomach and said, “Isn’t it time to eat?”

“…”

Moments later, in the DATS cafeteria—

“What is this?”

After freshening up in the restroom, Sora returned to her seat and stared at the dog food-like substance in her bowl, puzzled.

She didn’t take it as an insult from DATS since Kudamon had the same thing on his plate.

“This is Digimon feed—compressed food designed for Digimon’s digestive systems that can quickly restore stamina, ” Kudamon explained before popping one into his mouth.

Seeing this, Sora picked one up, brought it to her lips, and took a small bite.

“…Not bad.”

It tasted like solid mushroom and beef, though its texture resembled a compressed biscuit. Still, it was easy to digest.

Once she had filled her stomach, Sora followed Kudamon back to the command room.

Kudamon hopped onto Captain Sampson’s shoulder, his tail wrapping around the back of Sampson’s neck and draping over the other shoulder like a scarf.

Sora found a chair in the command room, sat down, and crossed her legs, waiting silently.

Time passed.

When she switched from crossing her left leg over her right to the opposite, Miki’s computer finally emitted a beeping sound.

Miki pressed the answer button, and a voice came through. “Headquarters, do you read? This is Raven. Over.”

‘Raven? An undercover codename? Heh, that actually sounds pretty legit.’

Sora stifled a chuckle.

“Headquarters received, over.”

A surprised voice came from the other side. “Why is it you? Over.”

Miki, clearly unimpressed, replied, “I’m in charge of contacting you. Just say what you need to say, over.”

Although she knew the person on the other end had been forcibly turned into a righteous individual, she still felt uneasy about him.

Yet, Kouki didn’t mind her tone, “I’ve escaped back to my residence. What’s next? Over.”

Miki turned to Captain Sampson.

“Get footage of the Space-Time Oscillation Bomb—it’s proof that Kurata is breaking the space-time barrier.”

Miki relayed the message, ending with a firm, “Over.”

Kouki said, “But I don’t know where the Space-Time Oscillation Bomb is stored. Over.”

“…”

Captain Sampson furrowed his brows.

The command room fell silent.

Sora suddenly said, “Lure Kurata out. He’ll definitely have a Space-Time Oscillation Bomb with him.”

Captain Sampson had considered this but… “How do we lure him out?”

Sora thought for a brief moment.

“Have Kouki contact Kurata, saying he wants more power—an Ultimate-level Digimon implant. That kind of procedure would require Kurata’s direct involvement, and since Kurata still sees Kouki as his own, he won’t be wary of him.”

Captain Sampson and Kudamon’s eyes lit up. Not only could they obtain proof, but they could also capture Kurata on the spot.

Two birds with one stone!

“Wait… They can capture an Ultimate-level Digimon?” Kudamon realized, frowning.

The enemy was stronger than he had expected.

As a Royal Knight, Kudamon had already reached his physical limits—his power was ten times that of an ordinary Ultimate-level Digimon. But he wasn’t arrogant; hearing that the enemy had captured Ultimates made him more cautious.

“Well?” Captain Sampson asked.

“No problem.” Kudamon’s gaze was resolute.

Captain Sampson nodded at Miki, signaling her to proceed with the plan.

Miki relayed Sora’s suggestion to Kouki.

Kouki simply responded, “Understood,” before ending the call.

He had agreed easily, but if any part of this plan was exposed, he would be in mortal danger!

But, for someone devoted to righteousness, this was martyrdom—his destiny.

Thus, he had no fear. He was prepared to die.

To atone.

To eliminate Kurata, that great evil.

He would give everything—even his life!

Kouki… his name will become fitting. He would go down in history, dying a glorious death…

Sora sensed Kouki’s willingness to sacrifice himself. Remembering how he had once been a complete scumbag, the drastic change gave her chills.

This was akin to Genjutsu—a complete personality rewrite.

In other words, mental control.

It was terrifying.

If Kudamon weren’t inherently good, things could have gone horribly wrong.

‘Come to think of it, Dark Digimon also had similar mind-control techniques…’

Like Vamdemon in the first season of Digimon Adventure. Even after death, he still controlled masses of people, forcing them to chant “Lord Vamdemon,” which led to his revival as VenomVamdemon.

Sora pondered. When she absorbed Vamdemon’s essence and became the Blood Queen, she hadn’t felt any hypnotic abilities.

“Seems like absorbing a Digimon’s power still requires training to unleash its full potential.”

Like how Mira had to study dark magic after acquiring Satan’s soul to fully utilize its power.

The first season’s Vamdemon had reached the species’ limits—his vitality surpassed most Ultimates. He even survived into the second season, going from a mid-tier boss to the final boss.

In a way, he was an inspiration—A true savior among villains!

Compared to that, Sora’s Takeover of Vamdemon was merely an evolution possibility—not a complete, independent Vamdemon.

She still had a long way to go before reaching Vamdemon’s full potential.
