Only after checking online did Kurata understand what was going on.
It turned out a diplomat from the Digital World had requested every nation to publicly acknowledge the existence of Digimon and was preparing to hold a peace conference at the UN’s HQ to sign a treaty for peaceful coexistence and joint development between humans and Digimon.
There were even photos of the Digital World diplomat circulating online—a golden-haired female angel with a stunning figure.
She was at once sacred and seductive, revealing and restrained, a walking paradox whose appearance struck a perfect balance.
Angewomon!
Her image spread quickly online, spawning both fervent fans and cynical haters.
Kurata ignored the online discourse, only sneering, “So it’s her!”
A diplomat from the Digital World…
He never expected that the Angewomon he had once casually captured would now stir up such a commotion!
With his dream of world domination, Kurata had long considered the Human World already in his grasp. Now, Angewomon’s actions felt like a thief robbing his home.
And the fact that he was now a wanted criminal? All thanks to her…
New grudges atop old ones!
Kurata’s eyes flashed coldly. He muttered, “A peace conference, huh? All those world leaders in one place in New York? Perfect.”
The dangers of the Digital World exceeded his expectations—just Gallantmon alone had shown him how deep those waters ran. And the Human World was now full of hostility toward him.
He was unwanted in both worlds.
That said, unlike Digital World, Human hostility was easier to exploit. During the conference, he could launch an attack to stir conflict between humans and Digimon.
Radical factions among humans would inevitably rise.
He could then collaborate with those radicals, mass-produce tens or even hundreds of thousands of Gizmon: XT, and reenter the Digital World to harvest life energy.
Sure, Gallantmon could handle dozens of Gizmon: XT. But hundreds? Thousands? Tens of thousands?
He’d be overwhelmed!
Especially with simultaneous attacks across different regions. While Gallantmon fights on one front, others collect energy elsewhere.
Either way, Kurata would profit.
Once the time was right, he’d conquer the Human World, then consolidate resources to launch a counterattack on the Digital World.
‘Heh, heh, heh… Perfect!’
Feeling smug, Kurata glanced at the diplomat’s photo and scoffed. “Let me give you a surprise, Angewomon…”
Just then, a familiar, annoying voice rang out. “Kurata! Hurry up and power me up!”
‘This brat… You’re useless now!’
Kurata walked over to the modification chamber and said to the loud-mouthed blond thug, “Get in.”
“Again?” Kouki frowned, though he obediently stripped and jumped in.
Kurata activated the machine, extracting Darkdramon from Kouki’s body and transferring its life energy into a separate container that housed Belphemon.
“What the hell?!” Kouki immediately noticed something wrong. “Kurata, why is the Digimon in my body gone!?”
Kurata smiled. “Because you’re no longer useful.”
Kouki froze, then roared, “Kurata, you son of a bitch!”
He tried to punch the chamber glass, but without his Digimon, he was no longer enhanced and couldn’t break through.
Kurata sneered. “Watch your mouth. I could end your life with the press of a button.”
Kouki turned pale with fear and shut up.
Kurata chuckled darkly.
He didn’t kill Kouki, though. Instead, he locked him in the chamber. Kouki was no longer useful but still had some research value.
Kurata left and entered a hidden room where Belphemon was stored.
Inside was a large tank connected by numerous cables. Through the glass, a sloth-like bear with ram horns and bat wings could be seen.
Its body was bound by chains, clutching a giant alarm clock.
Belphemon.
It looked cute while asleep, like a plush toy.
Whereas in truth, this was one of the Seven Great Demon Lords of the Digital World—the embodiment of Sloth.
Currently in its dormant state, it seemed harmless. But once awakened, it would become a terrifying engine of destruction.
Kurata muttered, “If I had the choice, I wouldn’t merge with you.”
Ideally, he would invent a remote control device for Belphemon. Then again, he was always just short of success.
So he settled for Plan B: using his bio-Digimon tech to merge with Belphemon and gain its power.
…
Meanwhile, at 10:00 a.m. in New York, at UN Headquarters.
“Miss Angewomon, would you consider changing your outfit? While it is certainly striking, this is a global broadcast, and some cultures are more conservative.”
The UN-assigned liaison gently offered the suggestion.
Even open-minded America found her outfit a bit much.
“No need. This is formal wear for a Digimon,” Sora replied, waving off the suggestion.
To become extraordinary, one must have extraordinary resolve—and sometimes do things that seem absurd to others.
Shame was an obstacle. She had to overcome it!
“Let’s go.”
Sora strode forward, long legs leading the way, with Vademon, Goblimon, Mushroomon, Tsumemon, Gekomon, and Kunemon behind her, toward the peace conference hall.
Most of the real discussions were already done. This event was more for symbolism and publicity.
“Miss Angewomon!”
A DATS operator from New York came running.
Since Digimon and the Digital World were confirmed a decade ago, DATS branches had been established in all major cities.
“What is it?” Sora asked.
The man held up a communicator. “Call from Tokyo DATS.”
The Tokyo team had remained behind; only a few Digimon were brought to New York as a show of presence.
Still, the Tokyo team was watching the live broadcast.
Sora took the device. “This is Angewomon.”
A familiar voice responded. “Angewomon, it’s Kudamon. We just received a message from the Digital World—from Spencer.”
‘Spencer?’
‘…If he sent a message instead of coming himself, something must have gone wrong.’
Sure enough, Kudamon continued, “Spencer reported that Kurata has likely returned to the Human World.”
Sora was speechless.
Even with Gallantmon, Spencer, and BanchoLeomon chasing him, Kurata had still managed to escape? Was he really that slippery?
Kudamon went on, “Earth is big. We don’t know where he’s hiding or when he’ll strike again. If he shows up where you are, stay safe. I’ll be there in ten minutes.”
‘Ten minutes from Tokyo to New York?
‘That’s insanely fast—Over fifty times the speed of sound!’
Sora was amazed. Even if she broke her wings, she couldn’t reach that speed.
‘I really don’t have a form suited for speed…’
“Understood,” she handed the communicator back to the DATS member.
She entered the peace conference hall with her Digimon entourage, settling into her seat under the gaze of countless cameras.
The campaign to publicly reveal Digimon had already concluded over the past two weeks. Sora was here to formally sign the treaty and set a foundation for future cooperation.
As for what came after—that wasn’t her job as a Digimon diplomat.
She could only trust future generations to figure it out.
Ideally, the future would resemble something like the Pokémon world—there may be evil groups, but overall balance would remain.
Everything proceeded smoothly.
Until the moment she was about to sign…
“A monster has appeared outside!”
